President Bola Tinubu celebrates former president and elder statesman, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo who turns 89 March 5th, 2026.

Information & Strategy, President rejoices with Chief Obasanjo, whose towering influence in the country, Africa, and beyond is significant.

It adds, President Tinubu notes the courage and sacrifices of the elder statesman, who previously served the nation as military Head of State from 1976 to 1979, handing over power to a civilian president in
1979, and later as the first civilian president in the fourth republic, 1999-2007.

President Tinubu affirms the historic experiences of the former leader, including leading troops to preserve Nigeria’s unity at the warfront, serving time in prison for speaking out against tyranny, and consistently pursuing Africa's political and economic interests.

As Chief Obasanjo turns 89, the President acknowledges the zeal and wisdom he has brought into Nigeria’s development process through his books and regular interventions, revealing a depth of patriotism to nation-building.

President Tinubu prays for more years of good health, strength, and wisdom for the former president as he continues to serve the nation and humanity. It concludes.

Dear Nigerians,

In a few hours, I will sign four landmark tax reform bills into law, ushering in a bold new era of economic governance in our country.

These reforms go beyond streamlining tax codes. They deliver the first major, pro-people tax cuts in a generation, targeted relief for low-income earners, small businesses, and families working hard to make ends meet.

The four bills - the Nigeria Tax Bill (Fair Taxation), Nigeria Tax Administration Bill, Nigeria Revenue Service (Establishment) Bill, and the Joint Revenue Board (Establishment) Bill, will unify our fragmented tax system, eliminate wasteful duplications, cut red tape, restore investor confidence, and entrench transparency and coordination at every level.

For too long, our tax system has been a patchwork—complex, inequitable, and burdensome. It has weighed down the vulnerable and shielded inefficiency. That era ends today.

We are laying the foundation for a tax regime that is fair, transparent, and fit for a modern, ambitious Nigeria. A tax regime that rewards enterprise, protects the vulnerable, and mobilises revenue without punishing productivity.

We are also building a framework for the Nigeria of tomorrow — leaner, fairer, and laser-focused on unlocking opportunities for all.

I commend the Presidential Fiscal Policy and Tax Reform Committee for its tireless work, the National Assembly for its rigorous review, our subnational partners for their critical contributions, and, most importantly, the Nigerian people for keeping faith with this vision of reform.

However, this is a beginning, not an end.

We are not just signing tax bills but rewriting the social contract. We are not there yet, but we are firmly on the road.

This is our rallying cry: Simplify. Reform. Grow.

Let the world know that Nigeria is open for business, and this time, everyone has a fair shot.

We are betting on a new Nigeria and building it block by block.

I am pleased to share that Nigeria and France have reached an agreement to develop joint projects aimed at promoting and diversifying the critical minerals value chain within the solid minerals sector of both our countries.

We signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) that establishes our commitment to collaborate on research, training, and student exchanges between Franco-Nigerian institutions to facilitate knowledge and skills transfer.

A significant aspect of this MOU is our dedication to promoting sustainable mining activities. We will implement projects and programs designed to minimize the environmental impact of mining, addressing issues related to carbon emissions, water consumption, and climate change.

Additionally, the agreement includes plans for establishing joint extraction and processing projects, supported by co-financing from both public and private sectors. This initiative aims to diversify and secure the supply of critical minerals while decarbonizing energy projects that are vital to the value chain.

I signed the MOU on behalf of Nigeria, while Mr. Benjamin Gallezot, the Inter-Ministerial delegate for Critical Ores and Metals of the Republic of France, signed on behalf of France.

Together, we have committed to adopting international best practices in the execution of these projects, ensuring that we improve the conditions for local communities affected by mining, with a strong emphasis on transparency.

Maybe this will convince FGN that the situation is urgent in ALL sectors. This airport must be sold off to competent entity. Meanwhile the same FG removed the DG of privatisation bureau without announcing an immediate replacement. Please sort this out very quickly.

@aonanuga1956 But there is Marine Police already in existence, headed by a DIG. How come Mr. President is still "mulling" the idea of setting up one. In addition, there is Inland Waterways Police (NIWA Police) with HQ in Lokoja. Need for better coordination in government.

@chymaker @MobilePunch Nothing suspicious in moving relevant departments to Lagos. CBN spends so much money on air fare, hotel accomodation and DTA for scores of its staff who are deployed to supervise banks, most of which have their HQ in Lagos. Current arrangement is expensive and inefficient.
