Economist and former NEDA chief Winnie Monsod posed an alternative to suspending excise tax on fuel products: taxing the 50 wealthiest billionaires in the country.
Monsod warned that suspending excise taxes would leave the government short on funds for its aid programs, noting that the same failed in 2022 when fuel prices also spiked. She said this would later on hurt, rather than help, the bottom half of Filipinos.
The economics professor added that the "wealth tax" during crises would allow the country's richest to "pay back a little bit" to the Filipino people.

Donald Trump has just announced that the US is taking over Venezuela.
He has also made clear that Venezuela’s oil industry will fall into US hands.
It's not even subtle.
It's loud and proud, in your face, naked imperialism.
The US has launched an unprovoked and illegal attack on Venezuela.
This is a brazen attempt to secure control over Venezuelan natural resources.
It is an act of war that puts the lives of millions of people at risk — and should be condemned by anyone who believes in sovereignty and international law.
As usual, my thoughts tonight are with those who have to continue through the night to work for pay, to drive for pay, to clean for pay, to sing and dance for pay.
And to those who will be alone tonight and quite unhappy over that.
May they all find kindness wherever they are
"I believe in the friendship between film and film criticism. No films should be lonely. Some films, if lucky, have two, three, ten, or perhaps countless friends. But we should also remember that there are unlucky ones without a single friend by their side." —Jung Sung-il
When we say we wish mmff movie tickets were more affordable, it doesn’t mean we value pinoy films less. Sana naiintindihan yun. We want cheaper tix coz we want more pinoys to be able to see these movies. At sana ma-experience nila panoorin ito sa sinehan.
WATCH: Baguio City Public Market vendors hold noise barrage on Christmas Day 2025, as protest against ‘mallification’ of the space continues.
Opposition against the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) between the local Baguio City government and SM Prime Holdings, Inc. remains. Tongtongan ti Umili, a network of progressive civil society groups in Baguio, says SM will be granted 50-year corporate control over the market if the plan pushes through, which they forecast will negatively impact small-businesses and consumers alike. The group has garnered 35,000 signatures in its petition to stop the PPP and heed the people’s demand for people-centered development plan.

Regardless of the lineup's quality this year, 400+ pesos per MMFF ticket is ridiculous. Wild esp. given na successful yung ginawa nila with cheaper ticket prices earlier this year. Pineperahan nanaman ang mga Pilipino lol
