Once the news broke that the Orire kids had been rescued, I quickly shared the good news with a couple of friends who had been using their pictures as WhatsApp status with captions like “Day 45 in captivity,” “Day 50,” and would often forward them to me with, “What is your government doing?”
I genuinely thought that, since they were so concerned, the news of the children’s rescue would bring them joy.
But alas…
Instead of relief, it was more questions: “How?” “After 50 days?” “What really happened?” and so on.
I was genuinely confused.
My response was simple:
“I thought this news would make you happy. At least, you won’t have to keep posting them on your status anymore.”
Hmm…
Sometimes, it makes you wonder whether some people are more interested in the problem than the solution.
What human beings really want? I guess we’ll never truly know.
Thank you to everyone involved, and thank you for your service 🙏🙏🙏
Igbo man allowed to erect container on a piece of land decided to build his own house on the land. Instead of being sober, he wants to "settle" the landlord instead.
No matter the context, a direct comparison of the legendary Fela Kuti with any artist, dead or alive, is disrespectful, distasteful and shows a lack of depth.
For Ever Lives Africa!
Why compare Fela with any artist living and performing in a ‘free’ world.
Fela's musical dexterity and prowess are acknowledged by many great musicians, not just 'singers'.
Wizzy have earned his stripes & deserve his flowers, just like other artists of his generation.
For those who may not know, Fela's music was listened to (not necessarily enjoyed) in the 1970s-1980s under a hushed environment and the social stigma of being labelled a rebel or societal misfit. Fela gained popularity & acceptance despite the gagging by the then govt forces.
A comparison of the late legendary Fela Kuti with Wiz Kid is like comparing apples with oranges.
It is a needless comparison that shouldn't be entertained in any quarters.
Yes, followers of any music talent may tout their favourite act as superior without a direct comparison
