Money20/20 USA 2026 is over, but which announcements actually mattered, and which fintech trends are overhyped? 👀
@NikMilanovic is joined by @CallMeGillette, @katieeperry and @SashaFintech in The Financial News Network studio to unpack the biggest news, launches and talking points from this year’s conference in Las Vegas.
Among them: a post from Tommy Nicholas, CEO at Alloy, which got fintech talking:
“What if we all just didn't go to Money 2020 next year and agreed to meet in like San Diego or something instead?”

Wow... Sign of the times.
Americans love prediction markets.
🚨 @Kalshi Hits a $40B Valuation in $1B Funding Round
👉Prediction market Kalshi secured $1 billion in new funding led by @Sequoia and @Wellington_Mgmt, catapulting its valuation to $40 billion.
This marks an 82% valuation jump in just five months (up from its $22B valuation following a @coatuemgmt-led round) as the company rapidly moves beyond its core event-trading roots.
A few thoughts:
1️⃣ Expansion into TradFi & Perpetual Futures
Kalshi is expanding directly into traditional financial markets. Following @CFTC approval, the platform launched perpetual futures covering crypto, equity indexes, and metals, aiming directly at traditional exchange giants like @CMEGroup and ICE.
2️⃣ Growing Regulatory Heat
The massive raise comes alongside intense legal pushback.
Utah’s Attorney General recently filed criminal charges against Kalshi and two executives, alleging illegal online gambling operations amid the company’s push to outpace competitors like @Polymarket.
3️⃣ A Broader Shift?
Despite regulatory friction, institutional backing highlights a major trading market shift: prediction platforms are evolving into mainstream, multi-asset derivatives exchanges.
Real customer. Fake evidence. AI makes it easier.
In a Socure survey, curiosity ranked above financial need among respondents who admitted AI fraud.
@nickster2407 asks: how do you stop false claims without making genuine customers fight for a refund?
Hummingbird has acquired AML detection company Quantimon to tackle one of compliance's biggest challenges: false positives.
Quantimon reports a 67% reduction in false positives using its technology.
Hummingbird CEO Joe Robinson tells The FNN's @martinezamethys how AI, human oversight and further acquisitions could shape the future of financial crime compliance.

If AI agents start handling our money, will charitable giving be part of the plan?
The obvious question is how much AI-created wealth will go to charity. @adamnash of @DaffyGiving sees another: what happens when AI moves from giving financial advice to taking action?

Just in: Ripple and Robinhood are partnering to expand RLUSD across retail and institutional finance.
RLUSD is live on Robinhood Chain and Bitstamp, with Robinhood app availability planned later this year.
The deal also includes institutional settlement, treasury management and expanded trading and financing through Ripple Prime.
If an AI agent is supposed to shop anywhere on your behalf, who decides where it can actually go?
Amazon blocked Meta’s Muse. Shopify partnered with it. TWIF reporter @martinezamethys tells @sashafintech why deals between platforms could shape the future of agentic commerce as much as the AI itself.
Then @adamnash of @DaffyGiving discusses making charitable giving more accessible, and whether AI agents could eventually help people give.

Businesses hedge the price of oil. Will they need to do the same for AI compute?
“Compute is becoming more and more of a commodity.”
This week on TWIF Spotlight: Fintech X AI, @Jillwillnyc speaks with @bavaria_kush, Co-founder of @OrnnExchange, about building a financial market for the computing power behind AI.
As businesses depend on more compute, they’ll need to buy capacity, sell what they don’t need and manage changing costs. Ornn is building a compute marketplace and price indices to support that market.
How do you price GPU capacity when the technology keeps changing? Who is already hedging the risk?
Hear how AI demand could create a new asset class and what financial infrastructure it needs.
