UVU's new After-Action Report tries to explain why no drone was in the air on Sept 10. The Project Team got the map wrong. Brain Harpole got the law wrong.

Here are the facts:

1. The Project Team says UVU is "at least six miles from Provo Airport." That would put campus outside the five-mile zone where drones are restricted. It's wrong. The Fountain Courtyard is 4.06 miles from the airport's FAA reference point and sits almost a mile inside Provo's Class D airspace. Six miles is the drive. Airspace is measured in a straight line.

2. Brian Harpole said of that airspace "I can't fly it" and "I can't break the law." Also wrong. Class D is controlled airspace. It is not a no-fly zone. Under 14 CFR 107.41 a drone pilot needs ATC authorization and the FAA's LAANC system grants it automatically up to 400 ft over that courtyard.

3. The FAA's records show no flight restriction over UVU until 2:30 pm. Two hours after.

4. Orem PD had a drone unit and says it would have helped if asked. The report and Harpole both confirm nobody asked.

The airspace was never the obstacle. The phone call nobody made was. Low key reminds me of the FBI and CIA on 9/11/2001.

My biggest question is, "how can you let a $250 million dollar spy jet(N1098L) do low altitude maneuvers, but not allow a drone?" and my follow up question is, "Could there have been a special restriction for flying drones due to the HADES plane?" If anyone has the ATC recordings from Provo Tower on 09/10, please release them? @I_Am_JohnCullen @theblakebednarz?
