@JFitzCBB @VapingSufi (For the completely uninitiated, I highly suggest the LDS Discussions podcast. Mormonism Deep Lore is on a while other level https://t.co/7DrAnZIB5R)
@JFitzCBB @VapingSufi The first book of Mormon features the good guys gettong a vision instructing them to decapitate of a guy passed out in the street and robbing him for the greater good. It's not like the suspicions came out of nowhere.
@JFitzCBB @VapingSufi The fact that most Mormons don't agree with this (probably never have) but continue to prop up the mechanisms of this oppression doesn't cancel that out. It just shows that Mormonism fundementally demands an extraordinary level of control over a congregation :(
@JFitzCBB @VapingSufi It is very fair to criticise the US government for tactical errors (e.g. the Short Creek raids) but it's a two-way street, as proven by Mormons oppressing non-Mormons by legally forcing non-Mormons to comply with religious beliefs where they have regional power to this day.
@colinarmis Also, you've never heard of an essay exam? Not all essays are dependent on a bibliography.
Branch out. Personal, introspective and reflective essays are meaningful. You've been missing out on some of the greats. https://t.co/ray5o2QRVf
on the same note, too many commentary channels are getting real fast and loose with adopting the title "video essay" then they will have like, no citations for anything or get details wrong and then you bring it up and theyre like "im just saying my opinion" like....
@colinarmis I don't endorse "good to fall asleep to" comments, I agree it can come off backhanded. That doesn't mean falling asleep to video essays is some kind of intellectual failing on behalf of viewers.
Your critisism is steeped in ableism and elitism, intentionally or not.
@JFitzCBB @VapingSufi They also did mass murder non-Mormon colonisers though. They killed 120+ settlers passing through Mountain Meadows and stole all their valuables, for example
@MarshSMT This wouldn't be a problem if we'd invested in biodegradable plastic straw research before that one video with the fucked up turtle went viral
@CerebralCSarean@reachartwork It's not just how students see it. It's how academia is set up on a global scale. Most of undergrad is set up to gatekeep jobs and "real" learning.
If it wasn't, every science degree would include a semester on scientific ethics and statistical rigour.
@Ancient0History @imbrokeok Yet another example of AAVE being appropriated by mainstream white hegemony, only to be demonised when it became too popular
@NoctreSharp@reachartwork Complaining about low-effort pandering trash is basically as old as writing about about grain but naaaaah it was actually invented in California 5-10 years ago
@NoctreSharp@reachartwork It's a lot easier to imagine that boring and careless art is imposed by monsterous techbros rather than an emergent desire in some proportion of humans
