Pi Network (@PiCoreTeam) has joined RoboPay as a payment partner, with $PI set to be used for robot services across the Fabric network (@FabricFND). RoboPay was built so AI agents can discover, hire and pay robots autonomously onchain, and this deal extends that same rail to tens of millions of Pi holders.

Once services go live, the vision includes summoning delivery robots for groceries, dispatching security patrols, or booking industrial inspections, all paid in the currency Pioneers already hold. Fabric calls it the foundation of an open machine economy where humans, AI and robots transact side by side.

Statement by FIDE President Arkady Dvorkovich

Today, the EU decision to include my name in the 21st sanctions list was published. I want to state unequivocally that I consider this decision unlawful and unfair, and this decision will be immediately challenged by all possible means. I am confident that justice will prevail.

However, given that until a formal court decision is rendered and/or such decision is cancelled or amended, these sanctions could hinder the stable functioning of FIDE, I have decided to voluntarily suspend the exercise of my powers and duties as FIDE President with immediate effect and for as long as I remain subject to sanctions under the EU and Swiss laws and regulations. In accordance with the FIDE Charter, the duties of the President will be assumed by the FIDE Deputy President, the 15th World Champion, Viswanathan Anand.

I would like to emphasize that I believe in the FIDE Council and I am confident that the FIDE Council and administration will overcome all challenges and do the utmost to safeguard continuous work of FIDE, its events and social programs.

Taking into account the statement above, the FIDE Council has decided the following:

The FIDE Council accepts and ratifies the decision of Mr Arkady Dvorkovich to suspend the exercise of his rights, duties and prerogatives as President of the FIDE. Accordingly, Mr Dvorkovich will not exercise the responsibilities, duties, rights and prerogatives provided by the FIDE Charter, particularly at article 18 of the FIDE Charter, and other regulations, as long as the measures provided by the “Ordonnance instituant des mesures en lien avec la situation en Ukraine” and the EU Regulations No 269/2014, are in force. Specifically, Mr Dvorkovich shall not act in the capacity of “détenteur de contrôle” (“owner, holder or controller”) of FIDE or its assets.

In accordance with article 19.2 of the FIDE Charter, Mr Anand Viswanathan, Deputy President of FIDE, shall act as Interim President as long as Mr Dvorkovich is subject to the restrictive measures provided by the Swiss and EU laws and regulations in force.

Following the decision by President Arkady Dvorkovich to suspend the exercise of his duties, and in accordance with the FIDE Charter, I have assumed the responsibilities of Interim President.

I want to thank Arkady for his leadership and for putting the interests and stability of FIDE first.

Together with the FIDE Council, the administration and our member federations, my focus will be on ensuring continuity and serving the global chess family.

One thing I’ve noticed after more than two decades of professional chess is that almost everyone dramatically underestimates how much preparation has changed.

People still imagine opening prep as memorizing a few lines from a book. That world is long gone.

Today it’s databases with millions of games, engines stronger than any human has ever been, neural networks evaluating positions that used to be considered equal, cloud computing, custom scripts, opening trees, novelties hidden 25 moves deep, and increasingly AI helping organize all of it.

But here’s the funny part.

The biggest difference between the very top players isn’t usually who has the strongest engine. We all have access to incredibly strong engines.

It’s knowing what to ask.

You can spend six hours analyzing a position and learn almost nothing, or ask the right questions and discover an idea in twenty minutes that completely changes your understanding.

Over the years I’ve also realized that preparation isn’t really about finding “the best move.”

It’s about finding positions where:

you understand what’s going on,
your opponent probably doesn’t,
and the practical decisions are difficult.

That’s why sometimes you’ll see a super-GM voluntarily enter a position that’s objectively only equal—or even slightly worse. If it’s easier to play for one side, the engine evaluation isn’t the whole story.

Another misconception is that preparation ends once the game starts.

The first novelty is often just the beginning. After that you’re relying on pattern recognition, intuition built from thousands of hours of analysis, psychology, time management, and occasionally just stubbornness.

Chess has become both more scientific and more human at the same time.

The computers keep getting stronger, but understanding which positions fit you is still something no engine can optimize perfectly.

At least not yet.
