Perrie responds to online criticism she’s received for singing about past emotions and experiences:
“It’s hard when people are like, ‘Why’s she writing about this when it happened years ago?’, ‘That’s not even her life now!’, ‘Why’s she talking about this?’ I want to talk about things that happened years ago ‘cause it’s wild! It’s stories! I’ve got so much to say and so much tea to spill. It still happened!
What do you want me to do? Do you want me to write an album of ‘I’m so happy in my life, I’m so happy in my relationship, I got Alex and I got two kids’ 24/7? Like, that’s boring! Nobody wants to hear me saying how happy I am in my relationship and this, that and the other all the time!
I wanna find inspiration from different things in my life that didn’t go to plan, or that went tits up, or just things that are relatable. Relationships, life experiences, the ups, the downs, everything. But people are like, ‘Why are you writing about that now?’, ‘Why are you harping on about that now?’, and I’m like, ‘Oh god! I can’t win!’ [Laughs] It’s just a lot.”
