It still amazes me that we can walk along a beach here and find a seed that floated over the ocean from a plant growing thousands of miles away. This is our collection of sea beans and drift seeds found during lengthy searches on Barra and Vatersay, mostly in the past 2 winters.
@barrabirder It’s wonderful to see this picture. In David Thomson’s wonderful classic The People of the Sea he talks about how finding a “Mary bean” brought the people of the outer Hebrides good luck and protection from drowning until they turned white. Always wondered what they looked like!
Has anyone else out there been inspired by the @una_music Aonaracht documentary on bbc iPlayer to listen to the album? The experimental Irish harpist /electronic musician sure knows how to do interesting stuff, and this really unexpectedly moved me… https://t.co/LLyt3Maoym
#OnThisDay 1974: children's classic Bagpuss first aired on BBC One.
Created by Peter Firmin and Oliver Postgate, it ran for just 13 episodes, but remains a cult programme for millions.
In 2005, both men reminisced about how they made the show.
So not folk exactly…but coming from the same wellspring of tapping in to the music in the earth, and well worth a listen! I was lucky enough to be at the North West launch of this project in Liverpool last night. “Build a hedge, not walls”… https://t.co/9uDEsGg7Sr
@stonelandofnod@StuartMaconie I was going to choose Alasdair Roberts too, but a different song: Long Lankin, which is seriously creepy! https://t.co/ZaqbG7c87f
Just to keep you informed of how things are going in the Jenrick mural debacle, as we can't redo the mural our plan is for the top cartoonists in the country to do a colouring-in book welcoming refugee kids, given to them for free and to potentially to sell to the wider public..
@SimonLeeWx My normal, 17 year old son who is not a climate activist was so upset by this decision and the impact it’s going to have on his future that he said he’s going to write to the Biden administration. His friends feel the same.
@BBCOne, please make no mistake…this is NOT Ok. This is not impartiality, and this does more to damage public trust in you as an organisation than broadcasting it would have done. From having a Tory donor as chair to caving in on Lineker to this. I’m so sad, worried and angry.
🚨Culture Wars Latest: Censoring UK’s most trusted voice on nature is shocking dereliction of BBC’s duty to public service broadcasting. It CANNOT allow truth on nature depletion to be victim in cynical culture wars stoked by populist Ministers #WildIsles https://t.co/uOXT3r4mnl
This one is for @lawt_d, who I believe is a fan of a good Finn McCool story, but is for anyone who loves a good traditional story expertly and wonderfully told. I honestly can’t think of a better storyteller than the great Robin Williamson.
