the most toxic people you’ve ever encountered will say/post shit like “be kind!” or “positive vibes only 😎” or “mental health matters!” in the most stunning lack of self-awareness
@AdultingADHD I thought the same thing for years. My dog was a temporary foster at a friend’s (she has a dog and 3 kids, couldn’t keep it) and basically chose me super hard. I’m depressed, ADHD, in a low-functioning slump. But, I did it anyway — “good enough is better than perfect” (1/2)
@AdultingADHD is what I tell myself. She always gets fed 2-3 times a day, wakes me up to remind me. Goes out several times a day… if I forget, she has wee wee pads in the basement. I don’t always have full capacity for play or walks, her alternative was the kill list… and we love each other.
@hitchcockalli@mellifluon@Lenniesaurus Agreed to an extent. My dad took his life a little over 2 years ago. Mental health, suicide and addiction are not dirty words and keeping them taboo is part of the problem. But, articles or tweets or photos sharing methods or gore or details do merit a TW… but this isn’t that.
@JoannaNoBanana That you will lose friends, opportunities and still feel this internalized guilt that it’s your fault. That we are often too fatigued or burnt out to give ourselves the care we need.
@samdylanfinch they almost forget that even on my non-work days I need to, like, drive a car. and check lanes. and remember to put the gas cap back on. and where I put my ID. and turn my lights off. Etc etc etc …
@tanzinavega This kind of stuff … should not be shared? This child who shared those horrific details of the worst day of their lives will likely grow up to be 16, 18, 20, 40 and probably won’t want to have (or consent to having) this out there?
