Have people in your life who will call you on your BS.
If you can't recall the last time one of your friends told you that something you said was a dumb take or a bad idea, that's a bad sign.
We all do and say dumb things. We need friends to tell us when we do.
A big crack in my atheist foundation was finding out that two of my undergrad physics professors were devoutly Christian. They never proselytized, but we could all observe how they lived their lives. Never underestimate the evangelistic power of living out your faith.

As an atheist kid growing up in a secular country, I loved Christmas carols. I had no idea what they meant, but they had weight and beauty to them like no secular holiday songs I'd ever heard. They're even more beautiful now that I know their meaning.
