Attention to Ethiopian Airlines
We write to express our serious concern regarding the treatment of Somali travelers by Ethiopian Airlines and to formally complain about what appears to be a discriminatory practice targeting Ethiopian citizens from the Somali Region.
Numerous reports from affected travelers indicate that Somali passengers are subjected to additional and excessive scrutiny when traveling, despite possessing valid Ethiopian identification documents. In many instances, presentation of a National ID card alone has not been considered sufficient proof of citizenship. Somali travelers have reportedly been required to provide additional documentation, including Kebele identification and other forms of verification, requirements that are not consistently imposed on travelers from other regions of Ethiopia.
This differential treatment raises serious concerns regarding equal treatment, non-discrimination, and the rights of Ethiopian citizens. The repeated targeting of Somali travelers creates the perception of ethnic profiling and unjustified suspicion based solely on regional or ethnic identity.
Furthermore, numerous travelers have allegedly suffered financial losses, travel disruptions, delays, missed flights, and penalties as a result of these practices. Such measures impose an unfair burden on law-abiding citizens and undermine confidence in the principles of equality and fairness.
We respectfully call upon Ethiopian Airlines and the relevant authorities to:
1. Immediately review and discontinue any procedures that disproportionately target Somali travelers.
2. Ensure that all Ethiopian citizens are treated equally and without discrimination, regardless of their ethnic or regional background.
3. Conduct an independent investigation into complaints raised by affected travelers.
4. Provide a clear public explanation of the legal basis, if any, for the additional verification requirements imposed on Somali passengers.
5. Establish an effective grievance mechanism for individuals who believe they have been unfairly treated.
6. Consider appropriate remedies and compensation for travelers who have suffered financial losses or other damages as a result of unjustified delays, penalties, or denied travel.
We believe that all Ethiopian citizens deserve equal treatment and respect under the law. We therefore urge Ethiopian Airlines and the relevant authorities to address this matter promptly and transparently.

#SAFARICOM,
When purchasing unlimited data packages in Jigjiga, the prices are higher than those charged in other parts of the country.
For example, the daily unlimited package in Jigjiga costs 160 ETB, while the same package in Harar, Addis Ababa, Adama, and other areas costs 135 ETB. The same price difference applies to the weekly and monthly packages, with customers in the Somali Region paying more.
Safaricom, what is the reason for placing this additional burden on the people of the Somali Region? What makes this region different from the others? Why are customers here charged more for the same service? We would appreciate a clear explanation regarding this pricing disparity.

The Government of #Canada has taken an important step in recognizing the #Somali community, as the #Canadian#Parliament is considering a proposal to officially designate July as Somali Heritage Month.
This recognition highlights the significant contributions that Somalis have made to Canada, particularly in the fields of politics, business, education, healthcare, and community development. It also provides an opportunity to celebrate and preserve Somaliaโs rich history, culture, and heritage.
This is a proud achievement for Somalis across Canada and a meaningful milestone for the broader #Somali community around the world.
At the Shabeeleey Tourist Center, the President of the Somali Regional State, Mustafe Mohammed Omar, (@Mustafe_M_Omer) hosted a dinner reception for senior leadership, regional administrations, and municipal administrations of the region.
The purpose of the event was to express appreciation to the administrations for their role in the successful conduct of Ethiopiaโs 7th national #election, particularly for their efforts in implementing the plans of the #ProsperityParty and the partyโs electoral victory.

Today, we inaugurated two projects in Awbarre District of Faafan Zone: 1) Awbarre Technical and Vocational Training College (built with a total cost of 218 million Birr); and 2) Sheed-dheer Boarding School (built with a total cost of 138 million Birr). Sheed-dheer Boarding School is already providing service, while Awbarre TVET College will start operations at the start of the new fiscal year, i.e., September 2026.
Sheed-dheer Boarding School is one of 11 Boarding schools constructed by Somali Regional State after the 2018 political reform. The region now has a total of 18 boarding schools, and the objective is to use these institutions to improve the quality of education in the region.
We also visited 3 ongoing projects in the district (namely, Awbarre water supply project, Sheed-dheer water supply project, and Awbarre primary hospital), all of which are planned to be completed within six months. These water and health projects are implemented with a total cost of around 1.2 billion Birr.
