260105 #SF9#Hwiyoung live summary. Sorry it took so long--crazy day!
HY started by greeting fantasy and saying that it had been a long time since he'd seen us. He asked, was everyone's new year good? Someone asked if he was going to cut his hair more--he said no, he thinks it would look bad.
He said he's been spending the new year diligently. He's been making resolutions, and worrying a bit too, but then he decided he's worrying about things that haven't even happened, so he's just decided to do what he can and he's just going to practice hard.
He had some good food recently, specifically tteokguk (a traditional soup with sliced ricecakes, the same kind in tteokboki only bigger, in broth with other stuff added in. It's traditional new year food.) He's trying not to eat too much.
He suggested everyone dress warmly when they go out and be careful not to catch a cold. "Let's be healthy and happy together." He says Seoul feels really cold right now. He doesn't usually turn the heater on, but it was so cold lately that he did.
Sometimes he imagines what it would be like to work at the same place as Fantasy. He thinks it would be fun. Someone in the comments said we shouldn't work together, and he said it was just hypothetical. He said, "You'd take care of me, right?"
Someone complimented his shirt, and he said it's cute, right? But he's worn it a lot and it has some holes in it--he showed the back of it to give an example. Later in the live, he says this t-shirt was a gift he got a long time ago, and he likes it, so he wears it a lot. He says even if his clothes get torn, it's hard for him to throw them away because it feels wasteful. He doesn't buy clothes very often so he finds it hard to get rid of stuff. Someone said, "Are you trying to make it vintage?" And he thought maybe so. He says it's honestly still wearable. Fantasy in the comments said they buy clothes periodically, and he says he's the same: he doesn't buy them unless he really wants them. Someone else said they don't buy clothes, and he praised that, saying, you've gotta practice saving and reusing things.
Someone commented that they didn't want to go to work. He said it does seem really hard to get up and go when it's really cold. He thinks that's impressive (to overcome it).
HY has been exercising, making resolutions, and thinking about what to do moving forward. He's decided to have the mindset of approaching small things one by one, so he's been practicing often. He wants to spend his time more fully this year.
He talked a bit about his haircut. He said the cut is good, but if he doesn't style it well, it gets bushy and uncomfortable. But he thinks not having to wear a hat is convenient.
For dinner, he ate a hamburger. He showed his McDonald's drink cup.
Someone asked if he wears short sleeves all year, and he said yeah he does. someone said in the comments that the messy look suits him, and he said these days he doesn't feel like doing anything extreme. He just wants something normal.
He asked what everyone did on new year's? Someone said they had to do their part time job, and he said that must've been hard. He wanted to know if anyone went to see the first sunrise of the year? He said he sent one sunrise photo. Other people said they went out and had fun, others did unboxing, and he said we've all been doing well.
Someone else said they just got older. He said that's okay. We all get older. He said we're pretty even as we age.
He said he wrote a lot of poems a long time ago when he was feeling emotional. Then he put them away, thinking that maybe he'd get better over time and maybe publish a poetry book someday. He showed his poetry to Sunghyeob Hyung (NFlying, his gym bro) and SH said it was really good and he should collect and publish them someday. He said that gave him a lot of confidence and he wrote a ton after that. He really kind of overdid it. But then he took his poetry and showed it to his sister, and she laughed a bunch while reading them, so much that Hwiyoung questioned it, like "Is it really that funny? Didn't I write it well?" She said, "Who told you this was good?" And he told her that SH had said so, and she said "He must really love you. Don't show this to people--it's embarrassing!" So then he stopped, thinking he shouldn't write any more. But it's been a while since then, and now he looks back and thinks, "Sunghyeob Hyung really loved me; is that why he said that? or maybe he was just trying to see what would happen?" (He means, was he lying to HY to embarrass him, like a prank) So he brought it up with SH recently, and asked him that. SH told him he really did think it was well-written, so HY feels really grateful to him for saying that.
He said he tried uji ramen recently, and thought it was really good. He's been eating a lot of shin ramen and other kinds recently. Also, he's been going on a lot recently about his sister's new mother-in-law's kimchi and how much he liked it, that they said she bought a kimchi fridge for it. HY felt bad (I guess because she spent money on it?) and decided maybe he shouldn't be so vocal about that kind of thing. But still, it was so good, he couldn't help saying it. He ate all of it today, and it was so good. He decided he should probably go help or something; he didn't know she'd make so much. But he says it tastes so much like his grandma's kimchi (his mom's mom), who has passed away. It's like she used to make a long time ago.
Someone said his hair was cute. He started playing with it, running his hands through it, and said maybe not so cute? When it's bushy he thinks it looks a bit old fashioned. But that's okay; just fantasy is watching. He thought the more he played with it, the weirder it got, and decided he should just leave it alone before it got too weird. He says he does touch it a lot; he still has those absent-minded habits from when it was long, so he often just sweeps it over ot the side. He was told not to do that, because it won't fall into the right place now (at the length it's at).
Someone asked what food you should absolutely eat in korea. He said there are a lot of good choices, and he mentioned a few: bossam, jokbal, and a few others.
He listed some of his goals for 2026:
He wants to become a "better me," and he wants to spend the year with a bit more challenge in his life than last year. He wants to live more diligently, making steady efforts all year long. He also wants to grow more so that he can live without hating others. (He did use the word for "hate" here, but I think it's more of an expression, like in English you might say something like "live in peace with everyone" or "live without holding grudges" or similar. I don't think he meant that he has this list of people he hates that he wants to hate less, lol). He said he doesn't want to end up making himself feel better by hating other people. He wants to be a better version of himself.
there was a little back-and-forth with him and the commenters about who's a baby--someone said he is, and then he said that we are, and that his sister is too. He said whether we're smaller or bigger than him, we're still babies. Everyone's a baby.
Someone asked him to do a solo concert. He said, "I only have three songs, how can I do a concert?" Then later someone must've said something like "what about SoundCloud?" and he said there are some limitations with that music. But if he can show us something, he will. He's grateful that we want to see it. then he started talking about Daniel Cesar, and he how did a "Tiny Desk" concert today (This is something NPR Music Does, and it really is a concert around a desk. I'll link it below.) HY said it was really good, and really cool. Later he mentions that Fujii Kaze did one too, and he liked that one as well.
He said he makes resolutions like being humble, or not getting cocky, but also not letting your confidence or self-esteem drop. He thinks about that a lot and tries not to get arrogant.
Someone wanted to know who he takes after for his handsomeness. HY said his mom claims he looks like her, and his dad says he looks like him.
He has his glasses, but he didn't wear them. They press too much on his nose. And he feels like this hairstyle with his glasses is just--too much. Like a weird concept or something. It's not an image he wants to show.
there was this little offhand mention that he held back something he wanted to say, like he was hearing Youngbin in his head saying, "You can't say things like that."
Someone said he looked like a college student, and he questioned that--"isn't that a bit off?" He thinks he's too young to be a part-time lecturer. Someone asked if he could be a teaching assistant, and he thought that would be hard. He thought if he did study something, it would probably be practical music. Anyway, he thinks it would be hard to be a TA because you have to deal with both professors and students. Someone in the comments said you just have to take attendance. Someone else asked if he was a model student. He said no, he wasn't; he was the kind who helped his friends not end up as the last one in the grades rankings (๐ does that mean he was last so they wouldn't be?)
He said he couldn't lift up his arms--he knows there's a hole under his sleeve and he can't remember which side. Someone in the comments said they'd check for him, and he said no, I can't show it to you.
Someone said he could be in the fashion design department. His answer: I'd set our country's fashion back a step. Someone said "Cat Department" and he said, "That would be good."
He read a comment of someone who said they were studying Korean. He said thank you. He'll also try (learning languages) so that he can communicate with Fantasy living in other countries.
Someone suggested creative writing (as a college major). He said a long time ago, one of his mentors, someone who taught him a lot in rap (I think he said his name is QM?), said he got into college on just one poem he wrote. HY learned a lot from him when he was young. From that point on, he took writing lyrics really seriously. He says he writes lyrics diligently now.
Someone asked about speaking English--he said okay, but "My English level is so small."
He used to like reading, but eventually he decided it wasn't fun anymore.
He worked on something recently that turned out better than he expected. Later, he wants us to hear it.
Someone asked about Japanese snacks. He says he doesn't really eat snacks, doesn't like them that much. He will if he's really hungry, so he does eat them sometimes.
Someone asked what books he recommends. He said The Sorrows of Young Werther (Johann Wolfgang Goethe, 1779). He's read a lot of recommended books like that. He said the one that shocked him most was Norwegian Wood (Haruki Murakami, 1987). He thought it was really provocative (If you look up the book on Wikipedia or ask AI about it, you'll find out why!) He also bought 1Q84 (also by Murakami) and it was huge--he only got halfway through it. It made him feel dumb, like "Is it just me that doesn't understand this?" So he moved on to webtoons instead.
Someone said in the comments, "If there were doors everywhere, where would you go?" (I think they mean like portals to other places). His answer was Busan.
He bought five bottles of body lotion, and he used two or three of them. (He mentioned in a live on tour that he'd used a huge bottle on tour; he puts a lot on).
Someone asked him to speak in Busan dialect. He said he won't because he thinks we'll tease him.
Then he finished up! He told everyone to take care of your health, "fighting" in 2026, and wished for everyone that only happy things will happen. He hoped tomorrow will be crazy happy too. He's going to prepare and pray for it. And then he said goodnight!
