I will never have an angry man in my home, I decided this really young. I will never live with a man everyone has to emotionally manage. I watched one of my relatives raise his voice at his wife and children, and what unsettled me was not just the shouting, it was how the whole house rearranged itself around it, how one person's lack of control became everyone else's responsibility, how grown adults became careful, how children became quiet. How peace depended on whether he was in a good mood. At that age I could not understand it. I had never seen behavior like that before. I remember thinking, how has no one ever shut this down? How can one person's anger be allowed to occupy an entire home? But later I understood that in many families anger does not survive because it is powerful. It survives because everyone else is trained to accommodate it. Silence protects it, fear feeds it, adjustment normalizes it. This is what male rage often steals first, not safety but reality. It teaches everyone else to act as though his reactions are the center of the household. Women start anticipating more, children learn to read footsteps, conversations get filters. Joy become cautious. The emotional climate of the home belongs to the person. Some people call that temper, some call it stress, some call it just how he is. I never accepted that language. Anger is an emotion, but intimidation, instability and making others live inside your moods are choices that get excused far too often. So I knew early what I wanted. Not perfection, not a man without emotions. I wanted emotional adulthood, a home where no one has to shrink so one person can feel big and powerful. A room where peace is constant, non conditional, a family where children do not learn fear before they learn love. My standards were never too high. They were built from witnessing what happens when people are asked to survive with standards that are too low like.
my therapist once told me “since you’re a good person, sometimes people will be mean to you because you’re a reflection of what they can't be” wow just wow
