Shergar Cup Saturday. Twelve jockeys, most of whom don't ride Ascot week in week out, on a track that punishes anyone who reads the pace wrong.

Worth knowing before you bet it: Ascot's pace bias is trip-specific. Hold-up horses do the damage over 7f and the straight mile. Over 5f, and on the round course, it reverses — get to the front and stay there.

Anyone who tells you Ascot is simply a hold-up track has read one study and applied it to a different racecourse.
