Despite the fact that my Twitter feed often consists of taking shots at the appalling state of the world, I am not a morose or despairing person.
I’m a joyous cynic and a gladsome naysayer.
For any of my Orthodox friends excessively worried about the quality of recent converts: The church historically has had worse and more immature convert surges than this. See: St. Paul having to patiently and repeatedly reinforce that no, participating in idolatry even as a “cultural norm” was not compatible with the faith. See: All the multiple nonsense all of the epistles had to address.
His response was not “Bar the doors! Stop converting terrible/stupid people!” His response was to teach them. So pray for your priests and bishops. And get busy as a loving example in your own parish.
@FortyFour_North Yeah. And treating the fathers as isolated text proofs rather than as a whole worldview, exactly as they treated scripture.
My priest is great, though, and as you said handles it fine. He has no wish to quench their zeal - at all. Just make them wiser.
Welp. Three hours of sleep and I’m up. Dog was sick aaalll over the bed. Once I jump up, rush doggo outside, and strip an entire bed I’m pretty much awake and not getting back to sleep anytime soon.
@ShamashAran@LanceVader Me prefer pleasant faithful to wife roofer who is also good roofer. But me no find. Roof very important. Nice no stop leaks. Me sigh, hire jerk who can roof.
@shutupchelsey@OGlex214 People exist who can turn around a dog like that, sometimes. Very admirable, truly. But the idea that a) it always works and b) all it takes is just a bit of love, poor baby, and *poof* a damaged adult dog becomes an angelic reliable pet is pure propaganda.
@MelloFelicia1 Happily married many decades now. Happy every moment? Nope. But still fantastic. For so many of my life memories, good or bad, HE WAS THERE, and shares them.
I’d hate to be old and have no one but me who truly remembers my life.
@booksandbbq Glad you caught that, because many don’t. How one views original sin is a huge factor in what is then needed for salvation. “Your view of salvation doesn’t solve the problem” is a pointless argument unless you know how the person frames the problem itself.
@booksandbbq People sometimes say “protestant” when what they actually mean is “evangelicals”
Lutherans and Anglicans get rightly miffed about that. I mean, **I** disagree with Lutherans and Anglicans on some stuff, but at least I know what we’re actually disagreeing about. 😆
Husband is currently arguing with the 6 yr old grand who knows the names of all the dinosaurs.
Him: This is an ankylosaurus, Popsy.
Hubs: No. That’s Bruce. I played cards with him once.
Kiddo: That is NOT Bruce!
Hubs: Sure it is!
They will do this for 15 minutes. 😂
My grandmother, when I was small, convinced me for an entire summer that you could tame a bird by shaking salt on its tail - the bird would be COMPLETELY tame and your friend forever. She’d hand me the salt shaker, and Id spend hours stalking birds, determined to pull this off. Out of her hair all day.
😂😂🤣🤣
Many feminists can only conceive of power in the form of standing up in front as the designated “in charge” person.
True matriarchal power is more indirect - it’s the sort where ppl just somehow end up doing what she wants, and avoiding her displeasure - but she never *ordered* them to do a darn thing.
