Football began in the 19th century as local firms' and military units' teams. Then it became more organised and leagues developed.
The best time to see it was pre 1960s; huge crowds, local lads and no big money. Most players had a job. I envy my dad seeing the 1950s Wolves team.
@IanByrneMP Thank you so much for your support Ian.👏👏
I hope you realise how much it means to us.
We have been ignored and disrespected for so long.
You are a bright light in a dark world. ❤️
I was proud to join #BackTo60 campaigners at Downing Street today to hand in my EDM no 430 in support of full state pension restitution to nearly 4 million 50s-born women, including more than 5,000 in my West Derby consituency.
President of Brazil Lula da Silva posted on X: "It is appalling that they continue to collectively punish the Palestinian people."
He added: "We, the political leaders of the democratic world, cannot remain silent in the face of this endless massacre."
Dear politicians,
Don't tell me you care about women's safety one minute, then tell me you want to allow men in the same single sex facilities as my 4 year old niece the next.
You either give a shit or you don't. Her safety isn't a culture war.
I know people think we say these things to be mean, but we really don't. We say them because they're true. There's no such thing as trans. It's a social contagion & mass delusion. It's Salem/McCarthyism/Maoism. It's suicidal empathy. It's fetishism and societal grooming.
If riders and team staff on the Tour de France need protecting from COVID-19, so do:
Cancer patients
Neonates
Medical inpatients
Surgical patients
EVERYONE!

This will be a photo taken in a moment which captured life in motion: the walkers walking, the pram-pushers pushing - daily life in Halifax 70 or so years ago. It became a picture postcard which will have dropped through many a letter box, bearing news of arrivals and departures and those careless details of everyday life. Now it is history: proof that flowers once bloomed in George Street, that Huddersfield had a Building Society, and that curtains once hung on Commercial Street. The life-cycle of a postcard.
As a psychologist, I cannot tell you how SICK I am of seeing case studies, adverts and social media posts that describe women and girls as having ‘mental disorders’, and then citing ‘symptoms’ such as, ‘piles of laundry, messy kitchen, piles of dishes, an untidy house’
I honestly don’t think I’ve ever seen this in a list of ‘symptoms’ for men.
What did the 1945 Labour government do after the Second World War with the biggest debt imaginable? They introduced the welfare state and the NHS - I always follow back #SocialistSunday
Wonderful to be at the Durham Miners’ Gala today.
I’ve been coming to ‘The Big Meeting’ since 2002 and it always inspires me.
It’s an amazing celebration of the history, solidarity, collectivism and internationalism of our trade union and labour movement. And a fun day out too!
The pandemic is ongoing.
All around the world we’re in another big Covid surge.
The U.K. Covid Inquiry is useless UNLESS Labour immediately implement any recommendations which result in a reduction of SARSCoV2 infections.
Hope you’re ready @GwynneMP @wesstreeting
It’s Sunday morning , it’s sunny here , but there is a lot of very bad stuff happening across the world . . . take a break and look at this little bird . . . it’s undeniably the ‘c’ word
