🎭 Opening the Africa CEO Forum Annual Summit this morning in Kigali, Malaika Uwamahoro reminded a room of two thousand CEOs, heads of state and investors that Africa's story is not one to be told about us, but one we write ourselves.
✍🏾 The Rwandan poet, actress and Fordham-trained performer has carried her spoken word from the United Nations headquarters in New York to African Union Summits in Addis Ababa and Kigali, and her presence on the ACF stage carries the same conviction that has defined her work for more than a decade: that the continent's narrative must be reclaimed, complicated and projected on its own terms.
🌍 Her appearance is not decorative, it is programmatic. At a forum that places pan-African ownership, megaprojects and African leadership at the heart of its 2026 conversations, art is the proof that the continent already produces what the world increasingly consumes, namely ideas, identity and imagination. From Inganzo Ngari to Notre Dame du Nil and Off-Broadway stages, Malaika has spent her career insisting that Rwanda is not Hotel Rwanda, that African voices need no intermediary, and that the next chapter of the continent will be authored by Africans themselves.
✨ This morning, in front of the decision-makers shaping capital flows, industrial policy and continental integration, she carried that argument into the room where it matters most. A fitting overture for a summit that has chosen, in this Kigali edition, to ask who builds Africa, who owns Africa, and who tells its story.
📍 Kigali, 14-15 May 2026.

“To scale youth-led innovations, we must bridge the gap between seed capital and long-term investment. Innovation is not just about the end product; it is also about the process. Including youth and women from the design phase ensures programmes are truly inclusive, relevant, and effective.” DG @ElodieShami at @WorldHealthSmt
