The next step could be turning concentrated solar energy directly into something equally essential: fresh water. At RAVERK, we’re developing ALPHA-1 — a mobile system designed to use concentrated solar thermal energy for desalination, with thermal storage and salt recovery. We’re currently looking for strategic partners to build and validate our full-scale prototype. Perhaps one day RAVERK and Masdar can build something meaningful together.
Everyone talks about batteries when we discuss energy storage.
But electricity is not the only thing we can store.
If your industrial process ultimately needs heat, converting electricity → battery → electricity → heat may not always be the smartest route.
Sometimes the better question is:
Why not store the heat itself?
This is one of the engineering ideas I find most interesting about concentrated solar thermal systems.
Capture sunlight → concentrate it → store thermal energy → use it when the process actually needs it.

I find myself thinking about strange things more and more often.
Humanity has acquired one of the most powerful intellectual tools in its history.
A tool that enables an engineer to calculate a system, a programmer to write code, a scientist to analyze data, and an entrepreneur to test hypotheses—and allows someone without that specialized team to handle volumes of information that previously required extensive expertise.
And what was the first thing we started doing with it?
Selling.
Generating leads.
Writing cold emails.
Automating sales funnels.
Creating advertisements.
Churning out even more content.
Persuading even more people to buy even more things.
I’m not against sales. There is no business without sales. And without business, many technologies would never leave the lab.
But I’ve come to realize the scale of the missed opportunity.
We now have a tool that has helped an inventor build a stronger department.
So why not use it to actually invent?
To design a new machine.
To rethink an old industrial proces
To seek new ways of generating and storing energy
To create new materials.
To solve problems related to water, food, energy, the environment, transportation, medicine, and space exploration.
So that a person who yesterday had nothing but an idea and a laptop can today solve a problem they previously couldn't even begin to tackle.
Of course, AI won’t replace the laboratory.
It won’t replace the machine tool.
It won’t replace the physical experiment.
It won’t replace the engineer who has to assemble the machine and see what happens when it runs for the first time.
But it can vastly enhance the capabilities of the person doing all that work.
And that, it seems to me, is where the real revolution lies.
Not AI *instead* of the human.
AI *alongside* the human who is trying to create something that didn't exist yesterday.
I’d like to see less talk about how to use AI to boost sales by another 20%.
And much more of this:
"I have a crazy idea. Before, I didn't have the resources to even test it." "Now, let’s give it a try."
Don’t limit AI’s transformation to just the marketplace.
Make it your engineer, researcher, critic, analyst, teacher, and second brain.
Don’t use it merely to profit from the world as it exists.
Use it to build the next one.
