One of the main reasons I created Found in Korea was to create content for adopted youth and adults. This content was intentionally created as a proactive opportunity for youth to talk about feelings surrounding adoption.

“It’s like human trafficking,” Ms. Sorensen said of adoption in South Korea. “If this happened to me, how many others did they do this to?” Story via @NYTimes https://t.co/fwSB6a9o9u
*birth window post*
It's that time of year again... enter into the vague anniversary window of the time where I emerged from the womb of a woman who is a stranger and an 엄마... the time where I think a lot about the fact that I do not really know when, where, or 1/
Because adoptees are massively over-represented in mental health & substance use facilities, & bc adopted people =4xs more likely to commit suicide, I do the work I do to spread education & awareness of adoption challenges, loss, and yes, trauma. 1/

Tracing the path of adopted people back to their origins sheds light on the fact that #adoption is, at it's core, a human and women's rights issue.

This is an excerpt from my doc @foundinkorea of a letter that I wrote to my birth family introducing myself.
I share w you today to remind people of the enormity and strangeness of writing an introduction letter to birth family, 2/
Today = Birth Mothers Day
This is a letter I wrote in 2010 from @foundinkorea.
If you aren't adopted, try to imagine having to write a letter to your birth mother/father telling them who you are! It is intense & a bit bonkers.

In text convo w/a friend, I think I just coined a term: "identity injury" -pls correct me if I'm wrong #adopteetwitter#adopteevoices
IDENTITY INJURY includes:
loss of family of origin, culture
race confusion
having to code switch
lack of mirroring
wondering whr traits originate
