It mostly stopped because new hardware could achieve draw distances that could make a city or a forest feel full.
The better lighting systems it had also made it easier to have the colorful richness the tropical settings allowed in a forgotten ruin, city alley, mystical forest etc.
@giantgio Water was cheapest thing to render that looked impressive, mostly textures with low polygon count.
Ocean horizons made it easier to hide the draw distance as well.
Tropical areas also made it easier to show off the increased color depth that new hardware could achieve.
@killthedoctors I like when it rains but when I tell people that that day “no you don’t” and I have to tell them yes I do and they think I’m just trying to be different but I AM different and unique and I like the rain
My uncle worked at a dynamite company. He told me a story about two guys who robbed them. Their plan was to use that dynamite to blow up the local dam, flood the entire city, then scuba dive into the jewelry store to take the diamonds while everyone was busy underwater.
You don’t see that kind of vision much anymore.
ONGOING ISSUE:
We're continuing to investigate the Anteater, Monkey, and Weasel errors. We're also going to be sending three Deluxe Sponsored Kits to everyone who's logged in in during the affected times. These will be distributed once things are stable.
Thanks for hanging with us, and we'll share more information as soon as we can.
Both guys and girls were entranced with how “beautiful” the young women were in the nice parts of New England. Especially at fancy pants university.
They were not “beautiful”, though, they were just well maintained.
Well kept, non-garish well fitting outfits, well done hair etc. etc.
Was very interesting to see how everyone acted around them, very stark difference from where I came from in the south.
I learned of Strauss after college. I knew my professor was of that persuasion, though. He was an old polish jew who would teach the Prince, Montaigne Essays, even Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur’s court. Very right leaning old guy who obtained tenure at famously liberal, prestigious old Northeast University.
Was taught this in college. Not through Strauss, but implied through the Prince. Do people actually believe this? That it’s trick or hidden meaning? It seems absurd. I would see people bemoan the word “Straussian” so I would second guess myself but this makes more sense. Is hilarious if true. Would like to see examples.
If you recognize this as “Straussian” OK; a much abused word now that is only invoked to mean “someone is TRICKING you” or referring to “hidden meanings” in authorship, of unclear purpose
@PoasterMealTime Don’t worry guys, Poaster had a great time and arrived to their destination safely! Here’s a picture they/them posted to celebrate their train ride today!
Trump made Pope Leo bless the Massie Crystal for the USA’s Semiquincentennial, praying it generates enough power to electrify every mile of the border wall for eternity.
@oecolamp Zoomers also learn about her through a video essay some limp-wristed guy made on Bioshock. This also lets them grandstand over her to feel intelligent.
Acquisition meeting today. Two consultants, Κλέων and Διόδοτος, came in to discuss improving cruelty and malice YoY. Boss asked a dumb question. They started debating in weird language. Seemed like Διόδοτος won. C-suite got executed. Called it a productive session and left.
@CommonSentiment Guys don’t listen to him, it’s a paid partnership, Larry Ellison paid him to say every word of that. The Australian government wrote the whole tweet for him.
