Importantly enough, checking out when we are at home with our families is also essential. We need time to be a friend, a spouse, a parent but more importantly, ourselves.
First Post for a while... today's thought is about vicarious trauma that teachers experience. Whilst supporting a range of academic needs in our classes, we also have children with medical conditions (some life threatening), families who are on a low income,
Families ,who are suffering abuse, children who are living through current trauma, children (and parents) who are aggressive. How do we protect ourselves from this whilst being able to give 100% to our school community. Talking through it and checking in with others is vital.
This week a new adventure starts. My main priorities are:
Be my authentic self
Use my voice for those without one
Great those I meet with a smile

After a day of SEND discussions, I have a new career bucket list.
1) Secure a position as SENDCo
2) Find an appropriate Masters course
3) Actively engage in research
4) Develop skills for public speaking

A day filled with discussion and learning at the @WholeEducation SEND Conference, listening to key speakers and their expertise around practice, policy & research was a day not to be missed. The learning never stops @HolderDM_@gdmorewood@AspieDeLaZouch@simontanner_SEN
As we head back to school remember..
It's hot for the children too, they may be hungrier than usual due to snacking, they may not have had a great experience, they will probably be tired. Take it slow and patient. Be kind to yourselves. Be kind to your children.
Today was a fabulous day at @JamiesFarm a solution focused day with amazing SEND practitioners from Bristol. Discussions were hearty and wholesome. I feel honoured to have taken part. So much expertise in the room to share good practice.
I have been lucky enough to be part of an aspiring SENDCo course, @simontanner_SEN and @RhianWarnerSEND have instilled knowledge to support my personal development. This is allowing to support SEND pupils further. I am lucky to have this opportunity.

Thought of the day.. how do we support the children in mainstream education who are clearly struggling in mainstream education when there is a lack of funding for resources, staff and expert advice and support for both staff and pupils?
@GillianKeegan@GillianKeegan there is a huge difference with speaking lessons and oracy. Oracy enables children to articulate their thoughts, question others, clarify underatandingd chalenge ideas, learn how to listen and respectfully disagree. All of these skills are essential for life.
