Before the NATO summit in Ankara, more than 100 people were reportedly jailed: academic Emel Memiş, lawyers, journalists and volunteers from TEMA, one of Turkey’s leading environmental foundations. Among them, a 79-year-old engineer accused of terrorism. Seventy-nine: a number that exposes the absurdity of the charge. When civil society, environmental activists and independent voices are treated as enemies, security becomes a pretext, not a principle.
Turkey is a Council of Europe country, and the rule of law cannot be switched off before a summit. Democracy is defended through rights, courts and freedoms — not raids, intimidation and inflated accusations.
Turkish authorities have carried out hundreds of arrests, banned protests and curbed media freedoms ahead of the upcoming NATO summit in Ankara, with campaigners accusing the government of using the gathering as a pretext for a clampdown on civil society.

.@NATO was never a club of democracies (see 1949 🇵🇹) & it isn't now (see 🇹🇷). When an authoritarian Gov hosts the summit you get arbitrary media accreditation & >200 people detained in some "preventive" operation. Sadly, none of this seems to be keeping Rutte awake at night.
absolutely disgusting. the US is going to continue to bankrupt cuba and makes its people suffer until the US takes full control. colonialism never ended
"To die for the people is weightier than Mount Tai, but to work for the fascists and die for the exploiters and oppressors is lighter than a feather."
—Mao Zedong
It is important to resist the commodification of basic human needs. Food, water and healthcare cannot be subordinated to market considerations or geopolitical interests. Access to adequate food is a fundamental human right grounded in the dignity of every person. Meeting this need not only alleviates suffering but also addresses underlying causes of geopolitical instability. Indeed, food security is an essential component of global and integral security. https://t.co/DgkM9RegJ7

Deep inner suffering inevitably arises when the human person is reduced to performance, consumption, or a statistical datum. Many young people today live under the yoke of expectations to perform, immersed in an exasperated competitiveness that generates anxiety, fear of not measuring up, and disorientation.
