i guess it depends on the type of fujo you are. some have an incredibly deep understanding of the characters and some simply want to project their fantasies on them bc they have a crush on one or both characters. the latter should just write y/n fics.

My hot take is that when you are a hardcore shipper your chance of mischaracterizing the characters you ship increase tenfold and someone who isn't a hardcore shipper is a lot more likely to have a better grasp of your favorite characters
