West Bengal police STF arrested two Bangladeshi nationals - Rahul alias Faisal Karum Masud and Alamgir Hossain near Bongaon border area for illegal entry and stay in India. These two people are connected with the murder of political activist Sharif Osman Hadi in Bangladesh.

The year 2024—an unforgettable year for the people of Bangladesh. After 36 days of a deadly movement, the long 17-year era of fascism came to an end. An interim government was formed, led by Nobel Laureate Professor Muhammad Yunus. Responding to the call of that government, I joined the journey of democratic transition.

Masuda Bhatti, a journalist known for her association with the Awami League, has been consistently disseminating false narratives against Bangladesh. In a recent video titled "The United Nations peacekeeping mission is being canceled", she alleged that the UN was involved in a conspiracy to topple Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina through what she called the “July Terrorism.”

In the video, Bhatti claimed that after the visit of the UN Secretary-General to Bangladesh, a project to send weapons under the guise of a “humanitarian corridor” into Rakhine was initiated. She also falsely attributed a quote to the UN’s Resident Coordinator in Bangladesh, Gwyn Lewis, claiming Lewis said that an election would be legitimate even if no political party participates—as long as the people do.
Bhatti further stated that Bangladesh’s participation in UN peacekeeping mission is on the verge of being canceled.

In one segment of her video, Bhatti presented an image allegedly showing UN arms being transported through Bangladesh. A reverse image search, however, confirmed the image had nothing to do with Bangladesh. The image originated from Shutterstock with the caption: “Palestinian trucks loaded with humanitarian aid cross through the Karem Shalom crossing, to Rafah in the southern Gaza Strip, on February 4, 2025.”

Her claim regarding an UN-backed corridor to Rakhine has also been debunked. Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus called such rumors “complete lies.” According to the Chief Adviser, while the UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres proposed a humanitarian relief channel during his March 2024 visit to Dhaka, the idea never moved beyond the proposal stage.

Allegations that the United Nations orchestrated a conspiracy to remove Prime Minister Hasina are not only unfounded but deeply disrespectful to the millions of Bangladeshis who protested against repression and demanded justice. The July movement was a spontaneous uprising born out of long-standing public frustration with authoritarian governance and state-sponsored violence. There is no substantiated evidence that any foreign power—including the UN or the US—had a hand in inciting the movement.

Furthermore, Bhatti’s misrepresentation of Gwyn Lewis's comments on electoral legitimacy is misleading. On June 4, Lewis clearly stated: “Even if the Awami League does not take part in the upcoming election, if the people can take part properly, then it will be an inclusive election.” She emphasized that from the UN’s perspective, inclusiveness means giving every Bangladeshi citizen a voice in the electoral process.

Moreover, contrary to the claims of Bangladesh’s participation in the UN peacekeeping mission is on the verge of being canceled, is false. No evidence or official statement support the claim.

Masuda Bhatti, previously appointed as Information Commissioner during the Awami League regime, was removed from her post on January 21, 2025, over proven allegations of serious misconduct. Despite this, she and a small group of like-minded propagandists continue to spread misinformation through digital platforms, including YouTube, aimed at creating confusion and promoting hatred.

■ কক্সবাজার বিমানবন্দরকে আন্তর্জাতিক বিমানবন্দরে উন্নয়নের নিমিত্ত কক্সবাজার বিমানবন্দর উন্নয়ন (১ম পর্যায়) প্রকল্পের আওতায় রানওয়ের প্রশস্ততা ১২৭ ফুট হতে ২০০ ফুটে বৃদ্ধিসহ এ বিমানবন্দরে বিদ্যমান ৬৭৭৫ ফুট রানওয়ে ২২২৫ ফুট বর্ধিত করে ৯০০০ ফুটে উন্নীত করা হয়েছে।
পাশাপাশি, এ বিমানবন্দরে পূর্ণ লোডে সুপরিসর বিমান অবতরণ-উড্ডয়ন নিশ্চিতকরণসহ অপারেশনাল সুবিধাদি বৃদ্ধির লক্ষ্যে রানওয়ে সমুদ্রের দিকে ৯০০০ ফুট হতে ১০,৭০০ ফুটে বর্ধিতকরণের নিমিত্ত কক্সবাজার বিমানবন্দরের রানওয়ে সম্প্রসারণ প্রকল্পের কাজ চলমান রয়েছে। এছাড়া কক্সবাজার বিমানবন্দরে প্যাসেঞ্জার হ্যান্ডলিং ক্যাপাসিটি বৃদ্ধি এবং সুপরিসর বিমানের পার্কিং সুবিধা বৃদ্ধির লক্ষ্যে ইতোমধ্যে এয়ারক্রাফ্ট পার্কিং এপ্রোন নির্মাণ করা হয়েছে এবং ১৭,৯৫৫ বর্গমিটার আয়তন বিশিষ্ট নতুন আন্তর্জাতিক টার্মিনাল ভবন নির্মাণ কাজ শেষ পর্যায়ে রয়েছে।

■ কক্সবাজার বিমানবন্দরে বিদ্যমান রানওয়ের পশ্চিম পার্শ্বে আন্তর্জাতিক মানসম্পন্ন প্যাসেঞ্জার টার্মিনাল ভবন, কার্গো কমপ্লেক্স, প্যারালাল টেক্সিওয়ে, এপ্রোন, রি-ফুয়েলিং সিষ্টেমসহ অন্যান্য অবকাঠামো উন্নয়নের মাধ্যমে একটি পূর্ণাঙ্গ আন্তর্জাতিক বিমানবন্দরে রূপান্তরের নিমিত বিস্তারিত সম্ভাব্যতা সমীক্ষা সম্পাদনের জন্য আন্তর্জাতিক পরামর্শক প্রতিষ্ঠান নিয়োগ প্রদান করা হয়েছে।
