@thanethomson Was nice to read your experience trying Haskell. I can tell you I don't understand Category Theory either, but have used Haskell professionally for 8+ years now. (yes, in production)
I hope you'll give it a go at a later stage, to maybe see how it feels making a full program :)
@_voidzero@kerckhove_ts Joke's on you, in Japan they also use "zeni/sen" as 1/100th of a yen.😜
(but you'll only see it on stuff like your energy/gas bill, not in cash)
@hmemcpy That's why I love declarative style (like I get with Haskell). It makes making sense of data flow real easy. (or at least much more than other languages IME)
@piq9117 I also always write my JSON instances myself. But prefer to use do notation in the FromJSON, with RecordWildCards so you bind to the fields explicitly and `pure MyType{..}` at the end, so that reordering of fields in the data type won't suddenly "break" your instances.
@swlkr@piq9117 Tell that to all the Haskell tweets in my timeline, where there's like 1 stray tweet mentioning OCaml 🙃
(jokes aside, I love more people are learning OCaml, makes the step to Haskell easier too 😏)
@graninas @DanielWalm60394 The reddit you link immediately explains the List monad isn't non-deterministic/-ism, though; just that it can be _used_ to model non-determinism. 🤔
For me, that's an example of the great community helping clear up a misunderstanding.
@AdrianSieber@Airsequel Bad press? Which are you talking about?
By the by, I also use Haskell in production (loving it) and am also always wondering where the community issues are. But different people have different experiences, I guess 🤷
Hmmm, I'm kind of excited to add to the `http-types` package, but it's not seen much activity in recent years. @aristidb Would you mind me co-maintaining it?
