Essential technology behind essential work.
Focus FS, a @beaconholdings portfolio company, helps mine rescue teams share critical information.
We’re building with Focus FS to help miners learn from historical incidents to robustify their safety program.
As a cofounder of Haize, I’m happy to announce that we're joining Beacon to bring safe, reliable AI to the real economy!
At the time of our creation, the majority of AI users were enterprises, racing to beat out their competitors by building the next new agent to automate their workflows, chasing after OpenAI and Anthropic as they release models with greater and greater capabilities.
As time went on, however, we saw a severe gap between the resources and capabilities available to the everyday business compared to these enterprise players.
Beacon's portfolio serves that exact customer profile and we realized that we can build the exact same tools that we served to enterprises and research labs to the broader real economy.
It's only been a month and a half since we started, but the experience has been nothing short of incredible. Nilam is a visionary and the people that he has assembled in the past years are nothing short of incredible.
Thank you to Nilam, Goutham, Mark, and the rest of the Beacon team for this amazing opportunity. I can't wait for what we will build together.
I joined Haize as an engineer to find the most interesting edge cases in AI deployments. Now that Haize is joining Beacon, we get to bring this technology to businesses that run the real economy.
Beacon's sheer diversity of problems, people, and technology makes it an incredible place to design how humans collaborate with frontier intelligence. It's super fun to learn from folks who've spent decades thinking about farming software, youth soccer league management, and dance recital tech.
Come build the steep rails to deliver intelligence (both ways) between worlds which don’t usually talk, and shape these rails to encourage diversity and creativity. This is what originally drove me to join Haize and what makes me so excited to be at Beacon 😄😄
I am thrilled to announce that @beaconholdings has acquired @haizelabs, with me joining as VP of AI Research.
We started Haize in 2024 to enable anyone to build reliable and safe AI. Through our red-teaming and safeguards work with the frontier labs; our observability, guardrail, and evaluation platform serving the world’s largest enterprises; and our pro bono SMB work, any customer could build AI they trusted with Haize.
Joining Beacon lets us deliver the same trustworthy AI to those who need it most, and those most overlooked by Silicon Valley: the essential Main Street businesses the real world depends upon.
Transitioning these essential businesses through the AI revolution is one of the most consequential responsible AI problems of our time. We couldn’t be more honored to tackle it with Beacon.
Thank you to our customers, investors, and team for the journey of a lifetime. And thank you to Nilam, Goutham, Mark, and the Beacon team for the trust and opportunity.
It’s time to get to work.
Beacon has acquired Haize Labs! So excited to welcome @leonardtang_ , @steveshenli and the team.
Leonard and I bonded over a shared belief: responsible AI means AI that serves the real economy, and Main Street deserves the same caliber of AI talent and technology as the world’s largest companies.
Now Leonard will serve as VP of AI Research across Beacon, whose companies serve 22,000+ businesses and institutions, from campgrounds to construction companies.
We intend to own and grow these businesses for decades. Bringing in the top-caliber talent like the Haize team is the kind of investment we want every founder who joins Beacon to benefit from.
a depressing amount of human and artificial intelligence is expended on things that do not particularly matter
i wrote about the Real Economy, the games Silicon Valley chooses to play, and the incontrovertible good still left to pursue

I just published episode 1 of Deep Learning, All the Way Down.
I’m rebuilding deep learning from first principles in modern C++, from tensors and autograd to transformers, CUDA, and custom GPU kernels.
We begin by building a tensor from scratch:
