@berthofmanecon@ZhangTaisu@peterfrankopan He's also State Councilor and was not removed from that post. The process would appear to be the same as for ministers, that is could be removed by NPC Standing Committee as well.
There's a lot of useful reporting in here but also I think some gaslighting by Chinese government officials. The reality is that Covid was already out of control before the government decided to drop restrictions, and its rapid spread would have occurred anyway.
When you blindly follow others, there are consequences
Army ants are blind, relying on pheromones to track the ones in front, if one ant intersects with its old trail, it results in a circular death trap where they spiral until they die from exhaustion
This looks like part of the global corporate culture that tries to "schoolify" themselves to appear more amiable: Nike and GE call their offices "campuses", China's Big Techs call their staff "classmates" (同学), while certain consultancies call their former employees "alumni"
"Congratulations on your Graduation!"
This is the message the employees get when they are fired by the internet giants in China nowadays.
A few years ago, graduation from college means unemployment, now unemployment becomes graduation. Really confusing!

We should be aware that a lot of non-western observers are marveling at our indignation about the invasion of Ukraine while not remembering the same emotions about the invasion of Iraq.
Good on Mike Seccombe @SatPaper for drawing attention to how the Morrison's government's has shifted on China & to the tough-guy rhetoric that keeps getting more extreme and ahead of even Washington. I was happy to contribute some observations. @UTSEngage https://t.co/YMu6VvTSBu
@JohnCulver689 Excellent points. Quite similar issue with the notorious "break their roots" phrase, which in its original context does not prove genocidal intent but is used in English language reports in a similarly outsized position
The shaming of Mearsheimer as a Russian stooge is wrong + dangerous. But this interview does illustrate another point: His theory, and especially its application to specific cases, is totally incoherent when it gets beyond the most generic truisms THREAD
