KIKO, BAM HIGHLIGHT FOOD SECURITY, EDUCATION, AND GOOD GOVERNANCE IN FIRST 100 DAYS
Senators Kiko Pangilinan and Bam Aquino released their respective 100-day accomplishment reports, outlining legislative priorities centered on food security, education reform, and government transparency.
Pangilinan, who chairs the Senate Committees on Agriculture, Justice, and Constitutional Amendments, described his first months in office as "a race against time" to bring down food prices and strengthen the livelihoods of farmers and fisherfolk.
He led hearings on agricultural smuggling and the rising cost of food, citing the urgency of addressing hunger and the impact of the Rice Tariffication Law (RTL) on local producers. He also pushed for amendments to the RTL, the prosecution of smugglers, and the creation of a Congressional Commission on Agriculture, Fisheries, and Food Security (AGRICOM) to recommend long-term reforms.
Pangilinan likewise proposed the Libreng Almusal Act, which seeks to provide free breakfast to public school students while sourcing at least 50% of ingredients from local farmers—linking it with his landmark Sagip Saka Act. He also urged the judiciary to act swiftly on corruption cases following the multi-billion-peso flood control scandal, stressing that true reform depends on accountability.
Meanwhile, Aquino's first 100 days focused on addressing the education crisis and ensuring budget transparency. He laid out a seven-point education agenda, led hearings to resolve classroom shortages, and pushed for higher funding for the Free College Law and additional scholarships.
He also filed the Classroom-Building Acceleration Program Act (SBN 121) and led hearings to strengthen the Masustansyang Pagkain para sa Batang Pilipino Act (RA 11037), which ensures nutritious meals for public school learners.
On governance, Aquino introduced the Blockchain the Budget Bill (SBN 1330) to promote transparency in public spending and chaired hearings to expand the implementation of the Free Wi-Fi Law (RA 10929). He likewise urged the Department of Trade and Industry to revise regulations that burden micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) and called for legal action against erring contractors involved in anomalous flood control projects.
