The price of gold rose significantly in NY hours and is now at $3,457 per ounce in Asian trading.
The recent setting of more record highs has been accompanied by occasional profit-taking, whose impact has been shorter-lived in the last few weeks.
This is consistent with secular factors being among the drivers of the surge in gold.
As per this FT column from October of last year, it's a phenomenon that started before the change in US administration and has intensified since.
