Deeply saddened and shocked by the passing of K. Bhagyaraj sir.
It feels especially unreal because I had the opportunity to meet him recently at Khushbu’s daughter’s wedding and spend some time with him.
Bhagyaraj sir was a creative genius whose contributions to Indian cinema go far beyond what many people know. He was the original creator behind stories that went on to become landmark Hindi films and career-defining milestones for so many of us.
Woh Saat Din, adapted from his work, became one of the most important films of my career. Mohabbat, with its story, screenplay and dialogues by Bhagyaraj sir, not only gave us a memorable film but also helped launch the journey of Indra Kumar and Ashok Thakeria as producers through Maruti International.
Later, Beta, another adaptation of his brilliant writing, became a blockbuster and remains one of the defining films of its era. Boney and I had acquired the rights and passed them on to Indra Kumar and Ashok Thakeria during a difficult phase in their journey. The film went on to become a massive success, with all of us receiving tremendous recognition.
Another remarkable example of Bhagyaraj sir’s brilliance was Mujhse Shaadi Karogi. Directed by David Dhawan, produced by Sajid Nadiadwala, and starring Salman Khan, Akshay Kumar and Priyanka Chopra, the film’s story and screenplay were by Bhagyaraj sir and adapted into Hindi by Anees Bazmee. The film became a major success and marked another important milestone in Akshay Kumar’s career.
The seeds of all these successes were planted by Bhagyaraj sir. We adapted his stories for Hindi audiences, but the true creator was always him. His writing touched countless lives and careers, mine included. He helped shape the journeys of actors, filmmakers and producers across generations, often without receiving the recognition he truly deserved.
I will always remain grateful for what he contributed to my career and to Indian cinema as a whole. His legacy will live on through the stories he created and the countless people he inspired.
My heartfelt condolences to his family, friends and loved ones. He will be deeply missed.
Rest in peace, Bhagyaraj sir. 🙏

First, you need to be educated before judging others.
ARR: The bravery of Sambaji Maharaj is great and impressive, but the film is divisive.
(Take: While the history about the great king’s sacrifice may be correct, digging out negative episodes from history can create communal tension in the present.)
Andhbhakts: ARR said our Sambhaji movie is divisive.
ARR: There is probable communal politics in Bollywood.
Andhbhakts: ARR said there is communal politics in India, so he is anti-Hindu.
I always wonder where these fools, who act like pawns in politicians’ games, and here I see one.
I was hoping AR Rahman would answer his critics tonight and he did.
His 2024 Abu Dhabi concert ended with Chaiyya Chaiyya and when he performed that after nearly 4 hours tonight I thought surely this is the finale. But he said wait, one last song.
And then he — and the whole arena — sang Vande Mataram.
The below video is proof and a right ol’ 🖕🏼 to all the numpties who have been far too comfortable coming out of the woodwork and saying incoherent horseshit about an undisputed maestro.
Goodnight and maa tujhe salaam.
This man is cut of a very different cloth to the other music directors out there.
Very very different cloth.
That is why after all these years after so much variety he is still able to spellbind the audience. மீண்டும் மீண்டும்!
And importantly he does not dumb down the audience by serving the same sounds or songs over and over. Coz that would be the easiest for AR.
But he challenges the audience to climb that aural ladder with him.
Explore the vastness of music with him. Shift himself and us to the next plane in music. In music appreciation. In music production.
What a GOAT. Or should we say GOAT amongst GOATs. I think if we line 10 GOATs in a row A R Rahman sir / brother / mate / உயிர்நன்பன் would shine like the Golden GOAT.
We are running out of superlatives to praise him. Coz after all these accolades he is gonna say எல்லா புகழும் இறைவனுக்கே any move on to the next project.
The next elevation plane. Taking us with him. Elevating us again and again and again.
Stay blessed AR. We can’t love u enough. This one lifetime is not enough to say thank you.

Finally watched #SaptaSagaradaacheEllo: Side A. Simple story, striking emotion, soul stirring music! ⭐⭐⭐⭐
Such a beautiful, striking & immersive romantic tragic drama. You usually associate the word 'immersive' with high budget blockbusters or big scale adventure epics, but SSE gives you that experience, especially in the last 30 minutes, purely because how powerfully everything unfolds. Sensational stuff by @hemanthrao11, who I've been a fan of since Andhadhun/Kaavaludaari. What a writer!
@rukminitweets & @rakshitshetty are both phenomenal as Priya & Manu, equally brilliant throughout, onnuku onnu salachadhilla types. Lately, I've been seeing so many posts elevating Rukmini, now I understand why. Pasanga SSE paathu dhan vizhundhurkanga.
Hemanth’s edherthamaana storytelling & character arcs are so well done. The arc of Soma, the prisoner who pretends to be Manu’s friend, only to show his true colours later. That arc genuinely irked my wrath while watching & the climax payoff, where Manu finally lays the Smackdown on Soma whopping his ass, felt so well earned & made me scream 'Vaainka da'. Seriyaana acting by Rakshit Shetty.
@charanrajmr2701: Wow. The man just owns this film. The 'now world famous' title track that plays during the opening credits sets the mood perfectly, starting off with a melody before gliding into 80s synth beats. Seriyaana vibe! 'Kaala Kaayiso Kade' is another ripper, with a mind blowing ending. The background score is bonkers, especially the pre-climax scene captureing Manu’s sorrow perfectly, the arresting visuals complemented by haunting violins, leading to the climax, perfectly setting up Side B.
Kannada cinema's been delivering some absolute gems the past decade & Hemanth Rao has been right at the heart of that movement, with SSE standing tall as one of the crown jewels.
