@theirishstory 2/2 McCabe served as Managing Director of the EBS from the 1940s until June 1970. During WW2 he was interned by the Fianna Fail government for his support of Germany.

@gerry_shannon And Sean Clancy was the last remaining member of the Free State garrison to serve in Co Mayo during the Civil War. He died in 2006 aged 105. He had drawn his Free State army pension for 82 years ! !

@irelandbattles Christy McLynn from Old Market St in Sligo town was the Republican driver of the Ballinalee. Remarkably, his home is captured in this photo of the Ballinalee three months earlier with it's previous owners. His house is just behind the tree on the right.

It also gives us a rare glimpse into the aftermath of the Civil War and how devastated bereaved families from both sides were in their shared grief.

@gerry_shannon @mspcarchives Regarding the death of Free State Corporal Hogan in Co Mayo, the official report issued from Dublin stating that he was shot by Republicans was subsequently contradicted by Colonel David Nelligan, who believed he had in fact been shot by another Free State soldier.

@mspcarchives @dfarchives @theirishstory Brilliant post re Mountjoy Jail break ! I brought Frank OBeirne's 80 year old nephew to the Military Archives last December. Detectives discovered a secret room while raiding the OBeirne family home in Sligo while searching for him after the jail break.
