Still thinking about our great book launch of 'Notions: The Lives of Irish Working-Class Academics' last week. Some moving thoughts, not least from the great Phil Scraton. We need to do a lot more for working-class kids in education in Ireland, north and south.
After (almost) 10 wonderful years with NIPNP, I’ll be stepping away as our funding comes to an end and moving to an exciting new role elsewhere in QUB. It’s been quite the ride! Obviously I'll be continuing my work on place-names in new places and new spaces. More details soon!
Notions: the Lives of Irish Working-Class Academics, edited by Iona Burnell Reilly, Stephen Baker and yours truly, will be published in May: https://t.co/Wp51clWmTT

Bayan Haddad, of Birzeit University's School of English, delivered a very moving talk at QUB today on scholasticide in Palestine. One line in particular resonates: "Palestine is like a lighthouse"; the genocide has shined a scorching light on the terrible ills of the global North

“The Irish language has been diminished. It is something symbolic. And if you look at the history of women, it’s the exact same” - An tUachtarán Connolly.
Cén ról, más ea, atá ag an nGaeilge sa chur in éadan an fhoréigin inscne? @seanmacrist
