In 2019, Messi was asked to name the best players in the world. He mentioned Neymar, Hazard, Mbappé, Suárez and the likes. Cristiano wasn’t in that list.

When he was reminded that he did not mention Ronaldo, Messi clarified that he deliberately left him out because he and Ronaldo are on a different level from the rest. In his words, he basically grouped himself and Ronaldo separately together.

So even Messi, who is often used in these debates, didn’t treat Ronaldo as “outside the conversation.” He placed him in a category of his own alongside himself.

But then you have Alexis arguing that Ronaldo shouldn’t even be mentioned in the same breath as Messi at all.
