I have a new friend—yes, more than a friend. He is a spiritual brother named Rev. Joel Kavala who, by God’s grace, began a confessional seminary (adhering to both the Westminster Standards and the Three Forms of Unity) last year in Nairobi, Kenya, called Emmanuel Theological Seminary. He is already partnering with our Puritan Reformed Theological Seminary for their Master of Arts courses, and has fifteen theological students with another half dozen on the way. The Lord has miraculously provided for all their needs in wonderful ways. In fact, when we shared stories about how our respective seminaries began and how the Lord was with us every step of the way so that we lacked nothing, we both marveled at the remarkable similarity of God’s leading in our lives. We even received great comfort from the same biblical text: Ephesians 3:20, “Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think . . . unto him be glory”! Please pray for this brother and for God’s work to prevail in Kenya.
