People who will lose their benefits will blame the Ds and subsequently vote Rs again against their interests.

L’EUROPA HA PERSO UN REFERENDUM.
E HA VINTO.

Ieri gli islandesi hanno votato.
Il 52,8% ha detto No alla riapertura dei negoziati per entrare nell’Unione europea. Il 47,2% ha votato Sì. Affluenza oltre l’82%.

Risultato netto.

E sapete cosa è successo oggi?
Niente.
Nessun ultimatum da Bruxelles.
Nessuna minaccia.
Nessun soldato europeo sbarcato a Reykjavík.
Nessun commissario ha spiegato agli islandesi che in realtà sono “un popolo europeo artificiale” e che quindi il loro voto non conta.

La Commissione europea ha semplicemente preso atto del risultato e dichiarato di rispettare la scelta del popolo islandese.

Può sembrare normale.
Nel mondo nel quale viviamo, normale non lo è affatto.

Perché a poche migliaia di chilometri di distanza esiste un’altra idea di Europa.
Quella di Vladimir Putin.

Un’Europa fatta di sfere d’influenza, territori “storicamente nostri”, vicini ai quali viene concesso di essere sovrani soltanto finché scelgono ciò che Mosca considera accettabile.

L’Ucraina decide di guardare all’Europa?
Per il Cremlino quella scelta diventa una provocazione.

Un popolo vuole determinare liberamente il proprio futuro?
Se quel futuro esce dalla sfera russa, arrivano pressioni, destabilizzazione e, come abbiamo visto, persino i carri armati.

Questa è la differenza tra un’Unione e un impero.

L’Unione europea può desiderare che l’Islanda entri. Io lo desidero.
Può pensare che Reykjavík avrebbe molto da guadagnare dall’adesione. Io lo penso.
Può continuare a considerare l’Islanda parte naturale della famiglia politica europea.

Ma alla fine decidono gli islandesi.
E se dicono No, è No.

Non c’è niente di più profondamente europeo di questo.

Perché l’Europa che voglio non deve allargarsi conquistando territori.
Deve diventare così libera, prospera, sicura e politicamente forte che siano i popoli a desiderare di entrarvi.

E devono poter anche decidere di non farlo.
L’appartenenza all’Europa vale proprio perché è volontaria.

Agli amici islandesi che ieri hanno votato No dico quindi una cosa semplicissima: rispettiamo la vostra decisione.

Continuate a essere nostri amici, nostri alleati, parte fondamentale dello spazio europeo e atlantico.
E se un giorno cambierete idea, noi saremo ancora qui. A braccia aperte.

Del resto quasi il 47% degli islandesi ha già scelto di riaprire quella porta. Non è poco.

Nessuna annessione.
Nessuna coercizione.
Nessuna “operazione speciale”.

Solo democrazia.

È questo che Putin e i suoi ammiratori non riescono a capire dell’Europa: noi non abbiamo bisogno di invadere i nostri vicini per convincerli a stare con noi.

A volte ci dicono persino di no.
E noi rispettiamo il loro No.

The corruption happening in Florida should be a national scandal:

A Florida grand jury found Republican Governor Ron DeSantis and his administration took $10 million from a Medicaid settlement that was supposed to help poor children get health care and diverted it to a charity run by his wife.

𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐥𝐞𝐧 𝐦𝐨𝐧𝐞𝐲 𝐰𝐚𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐧 𝐬𝐩𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐨𝐧 𝐃𝐞𝐒𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐬’ 𝐩𝐨𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐜𝐚𝐦𝐩𝐚𝐢𝐠𝐧𝐬.

Here’s where it gets even murkier. Despite the fact that the Grand Jury discovered this blatant corruption they decided against charging anyone because they said no one from DeSantis’ administration would take responsibility for sending the money to the charity or had any memory of who did it.

The Grand Jury report states: “While we can't prove who is responsible, we can plainly see that taxpayer money was misused for political purposes and we would like to see changes made to prevent this from happening again."

This is why trump wanted all the voter rolls, to purge democratic voters from the system, which they did. When they get voter rolls, they know whos a dem and cancel their voter registrations.
