People from completely different places came together to build, collaborate, help each other debug at impossible hours, and somehow turn chaotic ideas into real tools. 1/n

🎙️ The 19th episode of The Frappe Podcast is live!
This time, we sit down with Kelvin Njenga, Digital Transformation Officer at Kenya Red Cross. Kelvin's story did not start with a plan. It started with a free Saturday on campus and a friend heading to a Red Cross retreat. What followed was over a decade of showing up, first as a volunteer, then as the person rebuilding how one of the world's most trusted humanitarian organisations uses technology.
Along with our host Foram Shah, Kelvin talks about what digital transformation actually looks like inside a large, established nonprofit. From managing 312,000 volunteers across Kenya, to building a hospital management system in five days on a budget everyone said was too small, to sending a few million early warning messages to communities ahead of floods.
They get into the resistance that comes with change, why technology is almost always an afterthought in humanitarian work, and how open source became more than a technical decision for Kenya Red Cross. It became a philosophy. Build it, share it, let others benefit. Because if another organisation can respond faster because of something you built, those are still lives being saved.
