That graphic is ugly for a reason!

Ottawa spent years putting seniors on a fixed cheque while it booked hotel rooms and meals for asylum claimants at a rate that would make a pensioner laugh if it wasn’t their tax bill.

A low-income senior on OAS plus GIS is looking at roughly $1,600 to $1,800 a month. That is the cheque after a lifetime here. In 2024 the department told Parliament the hotel program was running about $140 a night for a room and $84 a day for meals. That $224 was not pocket money. It was the taxpayer covering the room service. Later answers put the combined daily cost around $195. IRCC hotels alone ran past a billion dollars. Provinces and cities got another $1.5 to $1.8 billion through the Interim Housing Assistance Program.

They will tell you it was never every newcomer and the hotels are winding down. Fine. Then explain why the people who built this country still have to choose between heat and groceries while Ottawa treated emergency hotels like a permanent line item.

This is not compassion. Compassion does not put the people who paid in last. This is a government that can find money overnight for a surge it created and then lectures seniors about tightening their belts.

Elbows up does not pay the hydro.

Would you rather see the next billion go to the people who already earned it here, or to another temporary program that never stays temporary?

The Americans have a law on their books called The Logan Act. The statute (18 U.S.C. § 953) makes it a crime for a U.S. citizen, acting without U.S. government authority, to communicate with a foreign government with the intent to influence that government’s conduct on a dispute with the United States or to defeat U.S. measures.

It was written in 1799 to stop private freelancers from conducting unauthorized diplomacy.

MAybe the U.S. Department of Justice should go after Johnson using that law.
