For the record (and pin), I’m a game designer! I’ve made some personal projects and worked professionally on CONV/RGENCE: A League of Legends Story.
My work can be found at https://t.co/Xts85FtpyI.
@miaaowing I work with old clients all the time. They need to show me a problem with their email, so they'll double click Chrome in their taskbar.
We both sit there as their dino laptop tries to scream open two large Chrome windows
REMINDER
Anyone who tells you that "all studios" are using AI, that an AI dominated future is "inevitable", or that "AI is here to stay" are either fear mongering in order to pressure you into settling/complying and accepting slop, OR are just making excuses for themselves.
From @thedailies Hollywood newsletter today...
"The takeaway: Hollywood spent years bracing for these (AI) firms to make content infinitely cheap. The filings suggest the opposite. The real cost is tens of billions in servers and power."

@WatchChibi@NomuraAkane You’ve answered your own question. Public libraries and distributions, not scraped in a shady manner from hard working artists who aren’t being paid. It’s almost like contract work in a way.
AI uses tons of power and steals the data and opportunity. It’s lazy and wasteful imo
@FeanFiltonpair@CharlesHorwood Not AI, but the same thinking. Cut costs to reduce overhead, work his own crew for selfish, megalomaniac, ego inflated driven reasons, all for a maximum ROI.
It was a moronic decision then. But I wouldn’t be surprised if he used AI to justify laying off more people.
I hate AI. Truly.
I understand the best case scenario for LLM use in games would be menial, non-creative work that saves everyone time.
But with the detrimental environmental effects still being in play makes me uneasy at best to support AI being used in ANY point of game dev.
@CharlesHorwood@FeanFiltonpair In a perfect world, AI makes development faster, easier, better
These tools are terribly imperfect and C-suite execs will use it to fill the bottom line at any cost
As mentioned above, we’ve seen backpedaling since execs found AI to cost more than the people they were gutting
Wow, I’m loving all the bot responses. You have all done a very terrible job.
All these responses lack substance or any meaningfully “pro” support other than “live with it” and “oh it isn’t harmful”.
Look at the work it produces, look at its effects. Shit is not worth it lmao
@Galexyofthings We were already microwaving the planet. Now we’ve aimed a thousand nuclear bombs at it per second for the lowest possible ROI.
All for the PUBLIC, for which it never should’ve been made available to, to make slop upon slop. This shit is NOT sustainable. Why are we using it now?
@d3dazZ Ah yes, because numbskull execs and brainless, creatively devoid individuals decided it has to go into everything, I must now ACCEPT it because the world totally didn’t work before 2022.
You see what shit it produces? You all WANT it this way? I don’t get that.
@Vision “Better use this thing that churns out slop and destroys the world or be LEFT BEHIND”
Left behind to do what? Continue to use my brain and watch the world burn anyways? Are you mental?
@MiaLiaRosilyn Gork, show me how to churn butter.
Yes, better completely shelter myself to avoid AI and wear the tinfoil hats instead of joining the conversation affecting my industries and daily life (re parts cost due to AI data centre developments).
Pro AI bot ass response
@sanghendrix96 This is paper straws vs celebrity private jets. GenAI is DECIMATING clean water supply and data centres are polluting the air and ground around local communities at an unprecedented rate.
All so people can generate slop or fill in work that they could’ve done BEFORE all this.
women have been playing male protagonists for decades without complaint, yet every year we see grown ass men throwing tantrums over women in games. that should tell you everything you need to know about who's truly ruining gaming now
