“To fulfil responsibilities properly requires knowledge, good judgment, and the right conduct. It is not simply a matter of following the law. It goes beyond that, to the values and standards that should guide how people conduct themselves.
This is particularly important when we consider the problems that need to be addressed, so that our citizens do not continue to carry the burden of problems that can be resolved.” President Kagame | Swearing-in of New Members of Parliament
“Our responsibilities as leaders are well known. Ultimately, all of these responsibilities are about serving our country and our people.
People face challenges, but solutions must also be found, starting with leaders, wherever they may be.
The problems that can be resolved should be dealt with immediately and put behind us. For the more difficult ones, we should work together to find solutions." President Kagame | Swearing-in of New Members of Parliament

“Everybody has this capacity or possibility to do, but sometimes we just sit with it and we don't move on to do what we have to do. All of us have that ability and it's better when you think like that at a much younger stage so that you grow into it. Then you are able to build yourself to resolve even bigger challenges.” President Kagame #AFSForum2026
On the sidelines of the Africa Food Systems Forum, President Kagame held meetings with Dr. Gérardine Mukeshimana, Vice President of IFAD, and Ms. Nardos Bekele-Thomas, CEO of AUDA-NEPAD.

“Unfortunately, a number of parts of financial systems on our continent are framed in such a way that they mostly avail capital to those who have it. The government has to find a way of chipping in and being somewhere in the middle so that they take part of the risk and enable those who do not have capital or access to it easily to be able to do so, and this is possible.
In the end, even government absorbing or de-risking the activity of the young people who may be involved with borrowing from the bank actually has a very high return because those who are supported many times make money. They move up the ladder to do things that benefit them but also benefit the country and the economy at large. There are mechanisms that can be put in place, there are ways if we are deliberate and organised we should be able to do that.” President Kagame | Africa Food Systems Forum 2026
