We are incredibly sad to hear that RSC Honorary Associate Artist Michael Pennington passed away at the age of 82 yesterday.
A Shakespearean to his very bones, Michael’s long & distinguished career with us spanned an astonishing 50 years.
Our thoughts go to all those who knew him
King Charles, "So this city, Washington, D.C. is the home of more Shakespeare folios than anywhere in the world. 82 copies are carefully preserved and shared at the Folger Library"
"And at this time, when the search for peace in the world is more critical than ever, I can only turn to Shakespeare's genius to remind us of the plea for peace spoken by the Duke of Burgundy at the conclusion of Henry V"
"My speech entreats that I may know why gentle peace should not bless us with her former qualities"
"Thank you, Mr. President and Mrs. Trump, for your splendid dinner this evening, which, um, may I say, is a very considerable improvement on the Boston Tea Party"
"So whether your cup contains tea, wine, Scotch whisky, bourbon, or even cola, uh, let us raise our glasses and voices as we toast, uh, the past, the present and the future"
"Thank you, uh, of our two proud and allied nations, to the United States and the United Kingdom. God bless both our countries"
"Thank you very much. Thank you, everybody"
Watch congress, including JD Vance and Mike Johnson, erupt in thunderous applause over King Charles reminding them that even an out of control authoritarian tyrant like Trump is accountable when he said "executive power is subject to checks and balances." 🙌💪👏✊️👇
Only one chance in this lifetime…
Like watching sunset at the beach from the most foreign seat in the cosmos, I couldn’t resist a cell phone video of Earthset. You can hear the shutter on the Nikon as @Astro_Christina is hammering away on 3-shot brackets and capturing those exceptional Earthset photos through the 400mm lens. @AstroVicGlover was in window 3 watching with @Astro_Jeremy next to him.
I could barely see the Moon through the docking hatch window but the iPhone was the perfect size to catch the view…this is uncropped, uncut with 8x zoom which is quite comparable to the view of the human eye. Enjoy.
Pleased to share my favorite high-resolution capture of the Artemis II launch- the moment the SLS is clearing the tower, captured by a sound-triggered camera placed near the pad.
I'll have prints linked in my bio for this one, and here's a short thread about how it was captured
@BillKristol Perhaps Lincoln could more directly relate to a leader grappling with the terrible heaviness of guilt, more than existential despair…? He did not murder his brother and steal the crown, but surely was troubled by every execution he had to order and the carnage of the war.
Here's an opportunity to help support the work Shakespeare at Winedale Outreach does with young students in the public schools of Central Texas. Any size of contribution appreciated! https://t.co/tYN90X1cBE
@JoyceCarolOates I asked a friend traveling to the UK in the '80s to keep an eye out for Alec Guinness movie posters -- he came back with this, which I love -- the Belgian release of "Kind Hearts"...
"I hope and pray to leave this world too someday and to have a place near God as near as any other soul with the exception of John Candy."
Catherine O'Hara's eulogy for John Candy just hits harder today.
