short answer is we switched to the gregorian calendar but an actual insightful explanation is that the julian calendar lasted 365 days and six hours, which based on i believe copernicus’s calculations actually was about 11 minutes too long. it doesn’t seem like a lot but by between 46 bc and 1582, a 10 days difference had been noted because of this incorrect recording of how long a year was. lowkey people knew this was an issue since the 4th century but it wasn’t until the 16th century when pope gregory xiii decided to issue a corrected calendar system and this was because easter was being celebrated earlier every year, so the new gregorian calendar skipped 10 days in order to correct the days that had been “lost” due to the julian calender being misaligned. october was chosen because at the time it had the least amount of religious holidays so the change wouldn’t negatively impact the liturgical calendar. it’s actually kind of interesting bc italy france and spain adopted the calendar relatively quickly but so many countries took hundreds of years, to the point where japan only adopted it in 1873, greece adopted it in 1923, and turkey adopted it in 1927, aka 345 years after the switched was originally made.
I’m telling you, open a film magazine from before 1950 and everyone talked like they do on the internet. Fan letters are indistinguishable from tweets.
personal trainer at the gym asked me what i do for work, and when i told him im a dancer he told me his wife is too. in my head im like def not the same type of dancer, but he goes “SHE’S A MAGICIAN’S ASSISTANT” she may be the cooler dancer
This is a Washington style desk. There are drawers on the guest side. You can still purchase them at places that specialize in traditional American furnishings.
Side note I get it’s probably mostly for the viewer but Shane having his typing sounds & text tones on is so millennial jock quoted that it makes me laugh so hard every time
