@irumidk Thanks Irum. I have had some OT and Physio input. Fortunately the condition does not affect my swallowing etc. It just affects my balance. Slowly coming to terms with it.
A few days ago I got told by a Neurologist that I have Ataxia. This is after two years of blood tests and MRI and CT scans. There is no cure or treatment for this condition. It affects my balance which means I cannot walk unaided and need a four wheel walker. There is so much
without the help of carers. I have to find a way to accept my new "norm" and I am struggling.
It is amazing the things we take for granted when we are healthy. Just feel hopeless and helpless
I can no longer do like getting on a bus or the tube. Vacuuming and mopping. Standing on a chair to change the light bulb or take the curtains down. Get in the bath tub without the aid of a bath board, cooking if it means using the oven and so much more. Taking care of my mum
My mum was diagnosed with Alzheimers 9 years ago. However, she did not deteriorate that much and was still pretty much all there - until today. For the first time today she did not know who I was for several minutes. Broke my heart and I am full of mixed emotions.
Played the National Lottery online and won £50. This was paid into my National Lottery online account. I am outraged as National Lottery have paid themselves with my money. Because the only way to spend my winnings is to buy more National Lottery tickets. Total scam.
Had a really wonderful time last evening at the #ELFTStaffAwards . Meeting my fellow service users and ELFT staff face to face for the first time. Also extremely pleased that our wonderful @baggybinny won an award in recognition of all he does - well deserved.
Recently had my annual health check and was told I had lost 5 kilos. I was so happy as I am overweight. Put this down to cutting out junk food and not snacking between meals. Celebrated with a butter and sugar sandwich - it was delicious and won't happen again for a long time.
Saw a two-in-one fruit cutter advertised on Twitter retailing at £15.75. Got it on Amazon for £5.99. Goes to show that shopping around is aways a good idea.
Recently joined #ELFTBefrienders and made my first call to a new befriendee today. An hour after the call I got an email from the team to say the befriendee had emailed to say he enjoyed talking to me and was looking forward to my call next week. I was told it was the first
Have been having balance problems for two years now which prevents me from going out unaided. With the support of some great physios I now have a four wheel walker which affords me a degree of independence to go out unaided. Never take your independence for granted.
as mum was so well taken care of. I am full of admiration for our NHS Staff and paramedics who are worth their weight in gold and deserve recognition for what they do. I don't think there is anywhere in the world that has such a great free healthcare service and I feel blessed.
came home at 1pm today after spending 15 hours in A&E at Royal London. Was there because my mum fell over at home as she was getting ready for bed and hit her head which left a huge lump the size of a golf ball.
Called 111 who felt she needed to go to A&E and promptly arranged
She was also seen by an OT and Physio. We were given equipment to support her mobility and told a physio would come to our home to help her with some exercises. All the staff were brilliant, caring and compassionate. Although it was a long time to spend in A&E, I didn't mind
