One major issue I have with Man of Steel is how the Krypton Council banished Zod and his rebels to the Phantom Zone for "eternal damnation," only for Krypton's explosion to completely destroy the anchor and hand their worst enemies a literal life raft out of a dying planet.
Like, these guys had advanced space tech and knew the core was collapsing. If their goal was punishment or execution, why on earth would they gift their worst war criminals a cosmic escape pod that guarantees their survival?
