A couple of notes on Chema's progression:

- does not carry to progress, simple as
- his progression as a passer looks fairly median, but by age standards, it is above average
- also the context of team situation, his job was not to progress; it was to recover while Angelo Stiller progressed

Looking at just u21 midfielders, he was in the top half for both prg passes and prg pass %, similar to names like M. Fernandes and K. Danois. Not elite, but above average in both.

His rate of short/medium passes was in the 90th percentile, long pass rate was in the 17th percentile. Stiller's was in the 40th and 60th; different midfielders tasked to do different things.

If you look at his rate of lateral passes vs. prg passes vs. historical u23 examples over the last eight seasons, he had a higher rate of progression than players like Vitinha and Rodri, was about on par w/ M. Locatelli, but not close to vertical demons like A. Wharton.

All this to say, he doesn't progress compared to the veteran maestro midfielders, but in the context of the Stuttgart team and his age peers, he looks perfectly competent in this regard.

And even if he didn't, I think its still worth differentiating between "didn't" and "can't".

Chelsea have reportedly offered £55m to Monaco for Lamine Camara, but Monaco want to keep him and will only consider selling if they receive a crazy offer.

AS Roma have also made it clear that Manu Koné is staying, while Tottenham have no intention of selling Lucas Bergvall.

So, what options do we have left?

For me, Martín Zubimendi and Chema Andrés are the two names that make the most sense, although they are quite similar profiles. Arsenal may not be willing to sell Zubimendi, while Chema Andrés is already close to joining Brighton for around €23m with a sell-on clause.

But honestly, why can’t Chelsea just hijack the Brighton deal for Chema Andrés now? 😂

Get him for €23m or double the fees, give him time to develop and avoid having to pay £100m for him next summer if he becomes the midfielder everyone expects him to be.
