As a Dual British-Israeli citizen who survived 471 days in Hamas captivity, I am deeply saddened by your decision @Keir_Starmer to recognise Palestinian statehood. This move does not advance peace—it risks rewarding terror. It sends a dangerous message: that violence earns legitimacy.

By legitimising a state entity while Hamas still controls Gaza and continues its campaign of terror, you are not promoting a solution; you are prolonging the conflict. Recognition under these conditions emboldens extremists and undermines any hope for genuine peace.

Why can’t Palestinian politicians, for once, act logically? Trump suggested that neighbouring countries, like Egypt, temporarily accommodate Gazans while Gaza is rebuilt and Hamas terrorists are eradicated. Where’s the issue in that? Keeping them in Gaza will slow reconstruction, and they will endure immense suffering in damaged areas. No, this is not ethnic cleansing. It’s a practical solution to rebuild after removing the threat posed by Islamist Muslim Brotherhood-affiliated Hamas terrorists.

True ethnic cleansing is what Hamas did on October 7. Ethnic cleansing is declaring that no Jew can live in #Gaza, while over 2 million Arabs and Muslims live in #Israel, represented by 13 members in its parliament, with 300 mosques across the country. For once, prioritize your people’s welfare over personal gain. We all know Palestinian politicians resist temporary relocation because they exploit their people's hardships to steal humanitarian aid, sabotage rebuilding efforts, and prolong instability.
Throughout history, no authority has been as corrupt as the Palestinian leadership in Gaza, the West Bank, or even abroad. It’s time to care for your people instead of perpetuating their suffering.

הרב עילאי עופרן כותב על תיכון הימלפרב ש-5 מבוגריו נפלו ב״חרבות ברזל״:
ברחוב תורה ועבודה בירושלים, בין ישיבת קול תורה לבית ספר בויאר, במקום הכי סמלי שאפשר, עומד בית הספר הימלפרב. אין הרבה מוסדות חינוך בעם היהודי שהבוגרים שלהם יודעים לדבר גם את השפה של הבחורים ב״קול תורה״ - ספינת הדגל של הישיבות הליטאיות, וגם את השפה של החבר׳ה ב״בויאר״ החילוני והליברלי. העובדה שבית הספר ניצב באמצע רחוב ״תורה ועבודה״ גם היא סמלית עד כאב, שהרי זה בדיוק, אבל בדיוק, מה שמלמדים שם.

עבר כמעט חצי יובל מאז למדתי שם, ואני עדיין רואה את עצמי כחלק מהקהילה. כל האחים שלי למדו שם, אמא שלי לימדה שם לפני כמעט 60 שנה, ואני כנראה לא הייתי מי שאני אילולא הייתי עובר שם. לא הייתי הרב שאני ללא התורה שספגתי ממו״ר הרב יהודה, לא הייתי האבא והבן זוג שאני ללא התורה שלמדתי ממורתי הדגולה תמר. לא הייתי עוסק בחינוך בלי ההשראה שקיבלתי מהרב ירמי, והייתי מורה הרבה פחות מוצלח בלי הכלים שקיבלתי מהרב ראובן.
23 שנה חלפו, ועדיין יש לי קשר עם מורים שלי מאז. אל ייקל בעיניכם.

באותם ימים, כשהיינו רעבים באמצע היום, היינו עולים לאכול באגט אצל אמיר ברחוב ״הפסגה״. מי שלא בקי בגאוגרפיה ירושלמית אולי לא יודע באיזו פסגה מדובר. בית הספר הימלפרב עומד סמוך לפסגת הר הרצל. כששילנסקי היה שולח אותנו לרוץ 2,000 הסיבוב היה עובר בצומת של הכניסה לחלקה הצבאית.

גם הקרבה הזו סמלית להחריד. לא יודע כמה כיתות של בוגרי בית הספר שוכבות בהר הנורא ההוא, ולא במקרה. כי זו בדיוק מה שמלמדים שם - מסירות אין קץ, ואהבה עד בלי. מצפן ערכי - דתי - ציוני - אנושי ברור ופשוט, יחד עם נכונות ללכת עם הערכים האלה עד הסוף. אפילו עד הסוף המר.
״אלוהים לא סוציאליסט״ נוהג אחי ישי לומר על האופן שבו מתחלק הקושי בעולם. אבל גם אי שיוויון יכול להיות קצת פחות ציני - מאות מבוגרי בית הספר נמצאים כעת בחזית, מהחיילים הפשוטים ועד לרמטכ״ל עצמו. וחמישה(!) מהם נפלו בקרבות מתחילת המלחמה.
אני חושב על התלמידים שעומדים עכשיו מול תמונות המחזור במסדרון ליד חדר המורים ותוהים מי הבא. על המורים השכולים, המעמד הבלתי מוכר הזה, שאיבדו עוד פנים אהובות.
ההצלחה הכי גדולה של מוסד חינוכי היא בקהילה שנבנית סביבו עם השנים. הקהילה הזו, שגם אני חלק ממנה, אבלה היום שוב על עוד חבר שנפל. אבל האבל והאובדן רחבים הרבה יותר, כי לא רק קהילת הימלפרב איבדה חייל, אלא העם היהודי כולו איבד את אחד מ״שחקני הציר״ שלו. בוגרי הימלפרב הם אחת הקבוצות הבודדות כיום שיודעות לדבר את שלל השפות של מגוון השבטים והקהילות בעם היהודי ברמת שפת אם. גם את השפה המסורתית, התורנית וההלכתית - של תורה ומצוות, גמרא וראשונים.

גם את השפה הלאומית - של ציונות ועצמאות, צבא ומדינה. וגם את השפה המודרנית והליברלית - של פמיניזם ודמוקרטיה, יהודה עמיחי וחנוך לוין. לא משנה מה כל בוגר בוחר להיות כשיגדל, בכל השפות הללו הוא מרגיש בבית.

בתקופה כל כך מקוטבת ומרוחקת, מוסדות כמו הימלפרב מגדלים את מי שמסוגל לחבר איכשהו בין בויאר לקול תורה. את מי שמחבר את התורה לעבודה. את בית וגן להר הרצל. קהילת החיבורים הקטנה והחשובה הזו, איבדה היום את החייל החמישי שלה. העם היהודי איבד עוד שחקן ציר. ה׳ ירחם.
