Richard and Robert Sherman with
Julie Andrews, Dick Van Dyke and music arranger Irwin Kostal at the piano! Walt Disney gave the songwriting brothers Richard and Robert Sherman a book to read, short stories by P L Travers about a Nanny named Mary Poppins who comes to work for a family in London.
They started creating the songs...Walt was impressed and took the brothers on his books, nicknaming them 'the boys'.
'Feed The Birds' was to become his favourite.
PL Travers initially turned down the whole idea of the musical adaptation.
But interestingly enough 'Let's Go Fly A Kite' helped change her mind. The song was inspired by the Shermans’ father a great songwriter himself who made kites as a hobby.
Music Hall is very much the inspiration for the songs in Mary Poppins. The legendary Julie Andrews debut film. Have a good week folks, keep on singing! #MaryPoppins #mondayvibe
