Loving our state does not mean lying about its history. It means telling the truth — even when the truth is hard.
Today we honored the more than 230 Black boys who died at the House of Reformation and lie in unmarked graves. And today, we announced that we are restoring their burial sites.
Their stories deserve justice and their souls deserve eternal peace.

The first National Conference of Colored Women was held on July 29, 1895, in Boston.
It was organized by Josephine St. Pierre Ruffin, a civil rights leader and suffragist.
Speakers included Margaret Murray Washington (the wife of Booker T. Washington), anti-lynching crusader Ida B. Wells, scholar Anna J. Cooper, civil rights leader T. Thomas Fortune, and social reformers Henry B. Blackwell and William Lloyd Garrison.
It marked an important moment in the fight for civil rights and women’s suffrage. It unified numerous Black clubs into the National Association of Colored Women, emphasizing education, social justice, and anti-lynching campaigns.
