i'm 20 and i've grown an app to 200K+ downloads. this is my first time talking about it online.
i'm finn. junior at ASU, living in SF full time.
since march i've been building and growing Ball AI, an AI basketball training app, full time alongside my dawg Julien Bourgeois.
where it's at:
> 200K+ all time downloads
> 60M+ social views
> 52K followers across our main channels
> a nice undisclosed amount of revenue
i've spent months on here pulling sauce from young founders and marketers like @LinoLeighton@jakecastilloooo@GeorgeLampro20@MaxHirsch13@blakeandersonw@aureliuscajigas.
every niche gets love in these communities. fitness, habit trackers, productivity, dating. almost nobody talks about sports apps.
so i'm sharing all of it. what's working, what isn't.
i don't have a course link in my bio, a consulting package, or a b2b saas sponsoring this post. (yet. i'll probably get tempted eventually.) i genuinely just want to meet people on here, help aspiring app devs, and share our story.
if you're a young marketer or founder, let's talk. love meeting other entrepreneurs.
Depends. I could see random UGC creators with no cult following getting replaced.
The thing that’s going to remain valuable is trust. That’s what brands will continue to pay for regardless of how much they can do with higgs. UGC creators who just rip trybe and side shift with no real audience could easily be gone.
Day 1 of documenting my app journey on X.
Stuff I did.
Went to the gym early and filmed some basketball content with young hoopers. Launching parent focused campaigns on Meta next week for Q4 so getting younger kids in the creative is important for targeting.
Had an all hands strategy call with my marketing team. Talked about October numbers and planned how we’re gonna takeover in November.
Repurposed one of our 1M view UGC videos and used Higgsfield to motion swap an AI influencer over it. Made 10 hook variants and scheduled those out for the week.
Built an agent that scrapes TT and IG for the most popping hooks, formats, and videos in the basketball space and emails our 60 man creator team every morning with some inspiration.
Almost finished the tool for our creator team that lets them turn 1 video into 7 using Claude. We have some of our creators posting 5 trial reels a day, so making their lives as easy as possible will allow them to be consistent and allow us to scale.
Got win back emails and notifications scheduled out for the next week to users who never started a trial.
Edited creative for our new parent campaign we’re launching.
Probably gonna work for a few more hours. Cheers X.
I’m posting an article every single day for the next week on strategies I’ve used to grow an AI basketball training app from 0 to 250,000 downloads.
No larping, no paid promos, free sauce.
First one. See how we used our influencers to power an internal content machine and generate 40M+ views on 2 channels.
Comment “Prompt” and I’ll dm you the claude prompt we used.
@itsbongoo Snap was a waste of time for me. Even YT and TT at the start didn’t do that well. Just stayed consistent until the accounts started to warm.
All depends on your ICP and knowing what channels they like. I have a younger audience so channels like YT and TT work well.
