Anthropic pays approximately 1.25 billion dollars per month to SpaceX for compute capacity in xAI’s Colossus data centers. Google buys nearly 1 billion dollars per month in compute from the same source. Demand for AI compute far exceeds current supply.
Virtually everyone is racing to build new data centers. Those who are building face severe challenges securing transformers, power connections, land, and water. In many locations, local residents are pushing back against new data centers because they compete for the same scarce electricity.
A large AI data center campus can require the power equivalent of one or more nuclear power plants (roughly 1 GW each). Good luck building that much new power generation capacity on a short timeline.
Today, the US has on the order of 10+ GW of AI-optimized or high-performance compute capacity in data centers. For 10 GW of compute, SpaceX’s planned orbital AI data center constellation would require on the order of 1,600 Starship launches, depending on satellite payload assumptions. Assuming one launch per day, that would take less than 4.5 years. In 5–10 years, launch cadence is expected to exceed once per day. Elon has spoken about the long-term possibility of hourly launches. Assuming 3 launches per day, you could add an amount of orbital AI compute roughly equivalent to the current total US AI compute capacity every 1.5 years. Good luck competing with that.
Elon Musk reveals that SpaceX was forced to strap a seal to a board and put headphones on it to test sonic boom sounds
"We were forced to kidnap a seal, strap it to a board, put headphones on the seal, and play sonic boom sounds to it to see if it would be distressed. This is an actual thing that happened. This is actually real. I have pictures."
Lex Fridman: "I would love to see this."
Elon Musk: "Yeah. I mean, sorry, there's a seal with headphones. Yes, it's a seal with headphones strapped to a board. And the amazing part is how calm the seal was."
Lex Fridman: "Because if I was a seal, I'd be like, this is the end. They're definitely going to eat me. How will the seal, when the seal goes back to other seal friends, how are they going to explain that?"
Elon Musk: "They're never going to believe them. It's sort of like getting kidnapped by aliens and getting an anal probe. You come back and say I swear to god I got kidnapped by aliens and your seal buddies are never going to believe him. And by the way we had to do it twice."
Lex Fridman: "They let him go twice? You had to catch the same seal?"
Elon Musk: "Well no, different seal."
ETSC just published “Tesla approval pushes Europe towards a road safety cliff edge” 🚨
Translation: the RDW did their job properly and ETSC doesn’t like it at all
Someone already sent them a point by point rebuttal and I freaking love it
Let’s go through it 🧵
Normal workers like SpaceX welders were treated so poorly that they will become millionaires after the IPO. Also, you can start as a low-level worker in Elon's enterprises and get a high-paying job in no time if you provide great work, regardless of your color, sex, or religion. Seems to be racist as f.
@DownhourJeff@SPCX100T Still, Tesla sells the best selling Car in the world and has the best autonomous System. Also, the Semi is in mass production and gets extremely good feedback from users. Best EV-Truck you can buy now and already has everything to get autonomous in the future.
You’re missing a key difference: With Falcon 9, only the first stage (booster) is reusable — the upper stage is expendable and lost on every flight. Starship, by contrast, is designed for full reusability of both stages: the Super Heavy booster is caught by the launch tower arms, and the Starship upper stage lands and is refurbished for reuse.
Because of this, the marginal cost per launch drops dramatically. The propellant for one full Starship stack costs roughly $900,000. Once the vehicles are flying repeatedly and the fleet is amortized, SpaceX’s long-term target for a Starship launch is in the range of $2–10 million — with Elon Musk repeatedly citing figures around $2 million (or even lower) at high flight rates and full reusability.
At $2 million per launch, 100 launches would therefore cost only about $200 million in direct launch costs — not $10 billion.

Just watched the video Elon posted of the Cybercab driving itself right out of Giga Texas, and honestly, I’m mind-blown 🤯
No steering wheel, no pedals. Just signaling, lane changing, and smoothly dodging active traffic around the factory lot.
And they said it was just a concept slide! Turns out the first real fleet is already quietly building up in Texas and Houston. Sci-fi is officially becoming reality.Waymo, you sweating yet? 😅
If a Robotaxi drops in your city tomorrow, are you getting in on day one?
